News: A conducive partnership: Aurubis extends license with Quintiq as planning needs expand

June 28, 2017 - Business Line Flat Rolled Products (BL FRP), part of Aurubis Group and one of the world’s leading producers of high-precision semi-finished copper and copper alloy strips, has extended its partnership with Quintiq to facilitate a business planning transformation program.

Quintiq, a Dassault Systèmes brand and global leader in supply chain planning and optimization (SCP&O), has been a technology partner of Aurubis since 2004 at various BL FRP production sites. Over the years, the company successfully reduced work-in-progress levels and improved delivery reliability using Quintiq.

The growing complexity of customer requirements, products, alloys and dimensions, just to name a few important components to the business, requires the further enhancement of supply chain solutions for Aurubis BL FRP.

“Each step within our production process is highly technical and interdependent on the step before and after it,” said Dr. Michael Hoppe, Vice President Operations & Technology Development of BL FRP. “We are convinced Quintiq has the in-depth understanding and technological intelligence to solve our complex planning puzzles and in doing so, support our strategies to increase market share in Europe, North America and other areas of the world.”

Global rollout
Quintiq will design and plan Aurubis’ flat rolled products processes to exploit and develop capabilities within the value-added chain from casting to final product. Quintiq solutions such as Company Planner and Macro Planner will cover capacity planning, material planning and aggregate supply planning. The solutions will be rolled out in stages across plants in Stolberg (Germany), Zutphen (the Netherlands), Buffalo (USA) and Pori (Finland).

“Quintiq will give us the much needed transparency over our manufacturing processes and real-time planning support for rolling, annealing and finishing,” said Frank Heck, Project Leader for the Company Planner implementation at Aurubis. “From a process standpoint, this will help us improve our delivery performance and lead times. From a business standpoint, it will help us extract the highest value from our partly constrained resources.”

Markus Malinen, Vice President EMEA-Russia at Quintiq, weighs in on the extended partnership: “We are proud that our solutions will help Aurubis increase output, reduce inventories and enhance performance towards customers. Together, we will move Aurubis closer to its ultimate goal ― to be able to respond to customers’ changing demands with agility and confidence.”
