Abolhasan is a mechanical engineer specializing in advanced simulation and packaging composite materials. With more than 13 years of experience in finite element method (FEM) simulations, including extensive use of SIMULIA software, Abolhasan views simulation engineering not only as a means to improve performance and efficiency but also as a way to contribute to a better world, support sustainable development and improve people’s everyday lives. In his current role as a simulation engineer at SIG Combibloc — one of the world’s leading packaging brands — Abolhasan develops and implements FEM models for packaging processes, material improvements, product development, filling machine design and process optimization. His work focuses on enhancing the performance and sustainability of packaging processes through simulation-driven insights, reducing development time, minimizing material waste and lowering production costs, while bridging the gap between theoretical research and industrial application. Abolhasan’s background combines academic and industry experience. He earned his master’s degree in Computational Engineering from TU Dresden, building a strong foundation in numerical modeling, polymer and rubber mechanics and tire structural behavior. He then completed his Ph.D. through an industrial promotion program with SIG Combibloc and TU Dresden, focusing on packaging composite materials and their converting processes, both numerically and experimentally. Passionate about innovation in packaging technologies — one of the most demanding and sophisticated simulation fields — Abolhasan has applied his simulation expertise over the past 10 years to deliver efficient, sustainable and practical solutions that optimize performance, cost and resource use in the packaging industry. Ashraf Idkaidek

Senior Engineering Team Lead - Caterpillar

Ashraf is a Senior Engineering Project Team Leader with more than 20 years of industrial experience in structural design, advanced finite-element analysis, and safety-critical system development. At Caterpillar, he leads analytical and design efforts for ROPS, FOPS, and OPS structures, driving cross-functional solutions to complex structural challenges while overseeing ISO certification testing and continuously improving structural analysis methodologies. His work integrates deep expertise in nonlinear simulation, fatigue assessment, and design optimization across heavy equipment applications. Ashraf earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where his research focused on nonlinear finite-element methods, fracture mechanics, and computational inelasticity. Carlo is an Aerospace Engineer who graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan. Carlo brings several years of experience in the automotive industry in Ingolstadt, Germany, specializing in FEM crash and NVH analyses. Carlo worked as a consultant for CDH AG on projects with leading German and Japanese automotive manufacturers. Since 2007, he has served as a Process Engineer in Tenaris’ R&D department within the steel manufacturing sector. Christoph Rudhart

Christoph, born in Friedrichshafen, Germany, earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Stuttgart. Following the successful completion of multiple multi-body simulation projects at a supplier, he joined Daimler AG in 2008.
At Mercedes-Benz, Christoph held various positions in the Powertrain Development and Chassis Systems departments. These roles included modeling subsystems from crank trains to seat transfer functions, using both elastic multi-body simulations and finite element methods.

Dario Dotolo

Dario holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II (2014). He began his career as an FMEA analyst, working with clients including Ferrari, Maserati, and CNH. Since 2017, he has been with Prometeon Tyre Group, starting as a Virtual Modeling Specialist and, since 2026, serving as Head of Virtual Modeling. Dario has built strong expertise in Abaqus, focusing on dynamic material characterization to understand elastomer behavior. He has developed advanced models to validate experimental curves and an automated methodology using Python scripts to run thermo-mechanical simulation loops. Dario collaborates with industry experts and works to make simulation tools more accessible and innovative, driving technical excellence within Prometeon.

Gwenael has built his expertise in the Engineering Office's Methods and Tools since 2007. He has supported both Airbus Commercial and Airbus Helicopters in helping the simulation community deploy solutions focused on parametric modeling within the Dassault Systèmes ecosystem, as well as Systems Engineering / Model-Based System Engineering methods. Harsharoop Singanamalla

Harsharoop manages predictive modeling for packaging at Henkel Consumer Brands, applying simulation-driven methods to support packaging development. He began using SIMULIA products in 2017 during his master’s thesis at Politecnico di Milano, where he conducted virtual bone fatigue simulations to predict failure behavior. Since transitioning to industry, he has focused primarily on structural simulations within the 3DEXPERIENCE platform since 2023 to engineer bottles, caps, and other packaging components for performance and durability.

Harsharoop's current focus is on operationalizing simulation within packaging development by promoting a virtual development mindset and integrating simulation into standard engineering workflows. In the future, the plan is to expand into Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) and broader packaging system simulations, including secondary packaging and palletized configurations.

Hiroshi Sato

Lawrence is a mechanical engineer specializing in strength simulation, with a focus on fatigue-related models. He graduated from the University of São Paulo, where he gained his first experience with FEM and fatigue as a member of the university’s Baja team. His career began as an intern at MWM International, where he worked on 1D simulations of engine cooling systems. After a brief stint as a design engineer, he realized his true passion lay in simulation and returned to the field as a strength simulation engineer. He later joined Scania Latin America as a consultant and has remained with the team ever since. Now serving as a technical leader, he helps define strategies and methodologies to accelerate Scania’s development through CAE-driven predictions.

Lorenzo Castiglioni

Lorenzo is an engineer with academic research and industrial experience in Computational Solid Mechanics (CSM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Lorenzo graduated in 1988 with a degree in Structural Engineering from Milan Technical University. He then spent 1991 to 1992 at Brescia University, where, as a Technical Assistant, he undertook advanced studies in solid mechanics and the Finite Element Method (FEM) for the nonlinear analysis of structures. As a visiting scientist at Brown University, he worked in a research group led by Professor Paul S. Symonds, studying the dynamic response of a beam subjected to short-pulse loadings. After leaving the University post in November 1992, he took up the position of Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) analyst at Fabbrica D’Armi Pietro Beretta S.p.A. Lorenzo’s primary objective was to introduce the value of scientific knowledge and quantitative assessment of the mechanical aspects governing firearms dynamics. As the sole full-time CAE engineer, Lorenzo has extensively used Abaqus finite element software, both standard and explicit, to improve the design of existing firearms and develop new designs in close cooperation with the product development platforms (pistols, rifles, grenade launchers, over-and-under and semiauto shotguns). Lorenzo is currently working on a project to simultaneously solve the fluid and solid domains of a firing process, including bullet crimping, powder burning, bullet engraving, bullet exit, and the uncorking of gas into the atmosphere.

Muhammad Ashraf

RF Engineer - Poynting Antennas

Muhammad is currently an RF Engineer at Poynting Antennas in South Africa, where he is actively involved in the research and development of commercial antenna products. His work spans the product lifecycle, from antenna concept and electromagnetic design through validation to full-scale commercial deployment. He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Lahore, Pakistan, and an M.Sc. in RF and microwave engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. Paul Lucas

Paul is a Technical Fellow for Loads and Dynamics at Daimler Trucks North America, with 15 years of experience in advanced CAE, specializing in finite element analysis (FEA) and multibody dynamics (MBS). He provides technical leadership in durability, vibration, and dynamic load analysis, supporting the development and validation of commercial vehicle platforms. In his current role, Paul leads the MOBI-LAB (Multibody Operational Behavior & Integration Lab) initiative, which integrates machine learning and statistical methods into traditional loads-and-dynamics workflows. His efforts focus on modernizing how vehicle loads are characterized, compared, and cascaded across subsystems, and on positioning multibody simulation as a central driver of durability and vibration assessments. Pawel Bajerski

R&D Team Leader - ABB Sp. z o.o.

Pawel is the R&D Team Leader on the Simulation Specialists Team at the ABB Corporate Technology Center. He has more than 14 years of experience in engineering, research, and numerical simulations of electrotechnical products. His responsibilities include analyzing internal arcs, environmental calculations, plastic processing, and complex multiphysics phenomena, with a focus on coupling the electromagnetic field with the overall system’s mechanical response. Additionally, he is a member of NAFEMS and holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. Pawel is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.

Saharash Khare

Saharash has 18+ years of experience in simulation. He has been part of the Hero Motocorp R&D simulation group since 2013. Before joining Hero Motocorp, Saharash worked at TVS Motor Company Ltd. after receiving his Master’s degree in Solid Mechanics and Design from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, in 2008. Saharash and his team effectively used the strengths of various SIMULIA tools - Abaqus, Fesafe, Verity, Tosca, and Isight - at Hero MotoCorp to establish numerous simulation methodologies, a comprehensive digital validation platform covering linear, nonlinear, fatigue, implicit/explicit and optimization analysis has been implemented to ensure robust and reliable design. The digital validation platform has ensured fast-track delivery of the new product by First Time Right design.

Sami Hienonen

Antenna Technology Manager - Convergentia Ltd

Sami works at Convergentia Ltd as an Antenna Technology Manager. He has designed internal antennas for hundreds of portable devices, including smartwatches, phones, rings, trackers, and various IoT devices. He also works with RF/EMI/SI/PI simulations, millimeter-wave antenna arrays, and their radomes. His primary tool is CST Studio Suite, and he is constantly seeking more effective ways to use it. He has also conducted several simulation-versus-measurement correlation campaigns across the frequency range 600 MHz - 70 GHz. Previously, Sami received a Doctor of Technology from Helsinki University of Technology and worked at Nokia Mobile Phones in Oulu as a Principal Engineer. He has used Abaqus for this since 2007. In his spare time, Sjoerd enjoys music (he used to play drums in rock bands when he was younger), hiking, scuba diving, and culture and history.

Sung Ju Kang

After earning a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Chonbuk National University, Sung Ju joined the Kumho Tire R&D Center in 2008. Since then, she has focused on developing structural analysis tools for tire performance, including durability, handling, ride comfort, and rolling resistance, primarily using the Abaqus solver. With more than 15 years of hands-on experience with SIMULIA technologies, she has built robust, efficient simulation workflows that support both product development and performance optimization. Victor is a mechanical engineer with more than a decade of experience advancing R&D capabilities in off-road (OTR) tire development across the US and Brazil. He is currently pursuing an MSc in Engineering Management at Iowa State University. Xiao Xu

Senior CAE Engineer - Shenzhen Inovance Technology Co Ltd

Dr. Xu graduated from South China University of Technology, where he systematically investigated the impact failure of thin-walled composite structures in automotive applications based on cohesive models during his doctoral studies. He developed both non-intrinsic and intrinsic cohesive models based on solid-shell elements, which were successfully applied to simulate impact failure in automotive glass and dummy head impact on windshields. In addition, he established a GPU-parallelized computational framework for cohesive models, achieving a computational acceleration ratio of over 136.5 times in simulations of coating impact failure in automotive contexts. After graduation, Dr. Xu joined Shenzhen Inovance Technology Co., Ltd., a renowned enterprise in industrial automation, as a Senior CAE Engineer. In this role, he utilizes Dassault Systèmes mechanical simulation software to conduct analyses, including Harmonic Response Analysis, Random Vibration Analysis, Shock Analysis, Response Spectrum Analysis, PCB Assembly Stress, and Thermal Stress during product development. By identifying structural failure risks at the digital prototype stage, he facilitates design optimization and risk closure, enabling forward design and shortening the product development cycle.

Xu Long

Professor - Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University

Professor Xu obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in mechanics from Tongji University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Nanyang Technological University, respectively. He was selected as a Young Top Talent of China, is an IAAM Fellow, and an IEEE Senior Member. He has received more than 30 international and national academic and industrial awards, and has served as a General Chair, Technical Program Committee member, or Session Chair at more than 20 international conferences. His research interests lie in the mechanics of electronic packaging and protective materials and structures, including multi-field and multi-scale material constitutive and damage modeling, life prediction, and reliability analysis. His research group has published more than 150 peer-reviewed journal papers in mechanics, mechanical engineering, and materials science. Since 2009, he has used Abaqus extensively. He has played a leading role in introducing Abaqus into the electronic packaging community, tightly integrating advanced finite-element simulation with scientific research and real-world engineering applications.

Yasunori Miyamoto

Senior Expert - Panasonic Connect Company

Yasunori is a Simulation Specialist at Panasonic Connect in the electronics industry, specializing in advanced acoustic simulations, including coupled acoustic–structural–electrical multiphysics analyses. With more than 25 years of experience, he has contributed to the development of mobile devices and automotive equipment, performing drop-impact, vibration, structural-strength, and acoustic analyses. Over the past five years, he has used SIMULIA Wave6 for acoustic simulations, ranging from simulation-driven development of new acoustic devices and active vibration and noise control systems to large-scale room acoustic analysis, including Speech Transmission Index (STI) evaluation for public spaces such as railway stations. He believes the true value of simulation lies in its ability to visualize complex and invisible physical phenomena clearly and intuitively. By collaborating closely with design teams and promoting simulation-driven development, he is passionate about creating innovative, high-quality products that deliver exceptional user experiences.
