Providing information and hands-on experience for calculating fatigue of elastomers using Abaqus and fe-safe/Rubber

Course Objective


This 2-day course provides background information and hands-on experience for calculating fatigue of elastomers using Abaqus and fe-safe/Rubber, including:

  • FEA Modeling for fe-safe/Rubber in Abaqus/CAE
  • Using the fe-safe/Rubber Interface
  • Stress-strain relationship for rubber materials in Abaqus
  • Theory of fatigue crack growth under relaxing and non-relaxing loads
  • Overview of material calibration and how to enter material properties in fe-safe
  • Calibrating the crack precursor size for fe-safe/Rubber
  • Variable amplitude loading and multiple block loading for fe-safe/Rubber
  • Postprocessing exports from fe-safe/Rubber (spreadsheet and Abaqus/Viewer)
  • Using fe-safe/Rubber output in the stand-alone Endurica damage sphere viewer
  • Industry examples

The course is divided into lectures, demonstrations and workshops. The course's workshops are integral to the training. They are designed to reinforce concepts presented during the lectures. They are intended to provide users with the experience of running and understanding actual fe-safe/Rubber analyses using Abaqus FEA.

Not included is the Endurica CL command-line fatigue solver (see for the Endurica CL classes).

Who Should Attend

This course is recommended for engineers with experience using an FEA solver and the fe-safe GUI. Some overview of the fe-safe/Rubber GUI is given, but users are expected to know how to use the Abaqus/CAE and Abaqus/Viewer interfaces.
