Simpack Rail Training

Course Objective

The Simpack Rail training explains how to use Modeling Elements to simulate rail-wheel contact, how to set up entire vehicle models, and the most important analysis types for rail vehicles. It also introduces rail vehicle specific elements such as tracks, irregularities, wheel and rail profiles, suspension elements.
The course covers the following topics:

  • Simpack Rail overview
  • Rail-wheel contact modeling in Simpack
  • Set-up of a simple wheelset
  • Set-up of a passenger car
  • Suspension Force Elements
  • Preload calculation
  • Track layout and irregularity definition in Simpack
  • Rail-wheel contact quasilinearization for linear calculations
  • Separate model and scenario modeling
  • Typical analysis tasks with worked examples:
    • Critical speed (linear and nonlinear)
    • Derailment safety in narrow curves
    • Passenger comfort
    • Roll coefficient

The course is divided into lectures and workshops. The course's workshops are integral parts of the training. They are designed to reinforce concepts presented during the lectures. They are intended to provide users with the experience of running and trouble-shooting actual simulations.

Who should attend and prerequisites

Simulation analysts and engineers who will prepare and solve multibody models for rail or similar guided vehicle simulation in Simpack will benefit from attending this class. Before undertaking the course, you are required to have completed the Introduction to Simpack training course. Basic knowledge of rail vehicle dynamics is beneficial but not mandatory.
