A Smart Building is a building that integrates technological solutions from the bottom line to provide services to its occupiers and improve its management (energy efficiency, building lifecycle management,…). Making a “smart” building requires multidisciplinary skills :
- Architectural and civil engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Systems Engineering
- Mechatronic Engineering
Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the Internet of Things (IoT) merge to fulfill these objectives :
- BIM: optimize process and efficiency
- IoT: connect the Virtual Twin to the real building prototype and simulate real-life scenarios
Justin and David, both students in engineering schools and interns at Dassault Systèmes, worked in close collaboration to propose a replicable experience. For faster implementation, they combined the concept of SmartBIM with LEGO Architecture bricks. They designed the virtual building in the 3DEXPERIENCE and explored the possibilities of multiphysics simulation by developing scenarios based on the real behaviors of a building.
