Advance SIMULIA’s leadership position in the Structures domain by delivering high-quality innovative mechanics solver technology capable of predicting the physical behavior of complex engineering systems.
Nonlinear Mechanics Software Developer role with a focus on materials modeling and nonlinear mechanics technology. This position offers a unique and challenging opportunity to join an R&D team of highly talented engineers and apply your mechanics and numerical methods knowledge to solve real world problems while working with the most advanced simulation products.
- Maintain and enhance material modeling capabilities for the Abaqus Finite Element solvers. The candidate will be involved in all aspects of finite element software development, with a focus on research, development, implementation and verification of new constitutive material models.
- Establish interactions with customers, Product Managers and DS Industry Solution groups to identify market needs and requirements for advanced material modeling capabilities.
- Contribute innovative ideas and problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement of our modeling capabilities.
- Stay abreast of the latest developments, innovations, and trends in FEA and constitutive material modeling technology.
- Collaborate with other team members and development managers to identify preferred solutions, algorithmic implementations, user interfaces, and best modeling practices.
- Develop tools and processes to calibrate material coefficients from test data.
- Manage development projects effectively, meeting internal schedules and release deadlines while delivering high quality simulation capabilities.
- Code maintenance and bug fixing
Qualifications
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering field, with a strong background in Computational Solid Mechanics, constitutive modeling, and non-linear Finite Element Analysis of engineering structures.
- Strong background in non-linear Finite Element Analysis and constitutive modeling, with a solid understanding of material mechanical behavior and properties;
- Demonstrated experience in numerical implementation of constitutive materials models for non-linear Finite Element Analysis;
- Experience with common materials modeling methodologies, such as computational plasticity, viscoelasticity, hyperelasticity, or continuum damage mechanics;
- Familiarity with damage and failure analysis of fiber reinforced composites laminates, Micromechanics, and Multiscale materials modeling;
- Proficiency with programming languages for numerical analysis, including FORTRAN and C/C++;
- Experience with Abaqus user subroutines (UMAT, VUMAT, etc.);
- Proficiency with Python scripting language;
- Experience with structural optimization considered a plus.
