Our Team: The Business Innovation Office (BIO) is a true business partner with all cross-functional leadership teams at Medidata to ensure the enterprise achieves scalability, productivity, and its vision for growth.  The BIO Information Systems team supports applications and technology across all corporate functions (sales, marketing, HR, finance, etc.)

Who we’re looking for: As Manager, Quality Assurance, you will leverage your experience and best practices and collaborate with BIO and business leadership to establish a QA function supporting our corporate information systems.  The objective is to establish QA methodology and procedures suited to a complex, highly integrated cloud-based environment, develop QA staffing strategy, and review / recommend appropriate testing tools.  The QA function will be responsible for defining, developing, implementing, and running all QA processes that support the organizational and environmental requirements of Medidata.  Additionally, The Manager, Quality Assurance will be primarily responsible for overseeing testing of all corporate systems that are either configured on the cloud and / or customized to ensure that corporate systems conform to the desired quality standard. Your competencies include:

Defining & Implementing QA Process

  • Develop and implement  overall QA Process and Methodology and report on status on an ongoing basis
  • Analyze current practices and projects and interface with project/functional teams to determine the best approach for QA process integration
  • Identify Key Areas to be discussed and document current state vs. best practice / goals
  • Identify tool/process training needs and schedule/conduct training as needed
  • Develop and maintain QA Process documentation and a consistent testing approach that is flexible enough to accommodate diverse projects, and present information to Executive Leadership on an ongoing basis
  • Make organizational, methodological, and procedural recommendations based on process development activities and best practices, and considering company/IT growth objectives
  • Document and organize all testing standards, procedures, guidelines, and templates and ensure that these materials are clear and accessible
  • Effectively communicate changes to QA process/procedures to the QA Team and across all impacted business functions
  • Set a positive example by ensuring that QA personnel adhere to documented procedures and “evangelizing” best practices whenever possible


Leading QA Initiatives

  • Create a roadmap to plan and prioritize QA initiatives, such as developing QA processes and procedures, creating templates for QA documentation, selecting/implementing QA tools, customizing existing tools, setting up QA dashboards/websites, etc.
  • Lead or delegate all QA initiatives and set priorities based on company objectives
  • Establish an environment that supports creativity and encourages finding better ways to perform and report on testing activities


Overseeing All Testing Activities

  • Assist and provide backup for other QA personnel on projects they are testing to support all business areas 
  • Participate in project team meetings and represent QA interests in requirement, design, bug review, and go/no-go meetings
  • Review all test plans and test scripts
  • Help QA personnel coordinate their testing efforts with supplementary QA resources (e.g., Business Analysts, End Users) as needed
  • Facilitate effective communication regarding QA status and issues between all project stakeholders
  • Ensure that overall status and issues/impediments are reported to Project Management and that QA approvals for changes being put into production (based on test results) are provided in a timely manner
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings to check on project statuses ensure that all QA deadlines are met
  • Ensure that all company policies and government regulations as they relate to QA activities are communicated to and followed by QA personnel


Providing Team Leadership

  • Escalate QA Team concerns and project issues to upper management when needed following the appropriate protocols/chain of command
  • Continuously monitor testing activities to find ways to facilitate and keep QA Analysts focused on business / project priorities
  • Manage QA resources by assigning QA resources to projects, shifting resources as needed, recruiting/hiring/onboarding QA personnel, maintaining appropriate personnel records, and approving timesheets
  • Identify training needs and schedule training for QA personnel; also provide/conduct QA tools/process training for other IT personnel as needed 
  • Mentor the QA Team and conduct regular performance reviews
  • Identify new opportunities for the QA Team to provide benefits to the organization
  • Delegate responsibilities when appropriate and as the IT organization grows/changes, and identify career growth opportunities for QA personnel

Your Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience
  • 5 or more years of QA experience including experience building and managing the QA function in a high growth global company
  • Experience working in environments with various development methodologies, QA processes, procedures, and best practices
  • Experience applying QA methodologies in highly integrated environments and collaborating with various levels of the organization
  • In-depth understanding of various types of testing (unit, integration, functional, usability, availability, performance/load/stress, automation, etc.) and a successful track record for incorporating automated testing into the QA function
  • Experience writing and reviewing test plans and test scripts
  • Experience with leading testing tools (e.g., test case management and defect tracking software) as well as proficiency using JIRA, Confluence, and/or other productivity tools
