L'Increvable

An alternative to the drift of planned obsolescence, L’increvable embodies a new way of designing and consuming products. Take a product found in almost every home: the washing machine. The average cost of a washing machine is €350. While the purchase price has decreased over time, repair costs have risen by 125% over the past 20 years. As a result, when a consumer needs to repair their machine, they are often effectively buying a new one—getting the latest technology for roughly the same price and avoiding breakdowns for years.

There is a better solution: designing products with repair and recycling in mind from the start, making them both more affordable and efficient. In practice, this means making every component removable, replaceable, and recyclable. And this principle doesn’t apply only to washing machines—it works for virtually all products. This approach is called Eco-design for End-of-Life.

L’increvable embodies the alternative in the large household appliance market by offering reliable, repairable, and scalable high-value devices.

The concept was created by Julien Phedyaeff, then a student at ENSCI. This eco-designed washing machine is fully repairable, with parts that can be upgraded over time. It is connected and open to software updates and innovations, and can be configured to address planned obsolescence, ensuring long-term usability and relevance.

L’Increvable supports Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns. Its eco-designed, fully repairable washing machines reduce waste, extend product lifespan, and enable part upgrades, promoting a circular approach to household appliances.
