Transforming Medical Practice With V+R Twins
Virtual Twins are accurate, intelligible, and shareable Virtual representations of an individual's Real health (V+R Twins). They are developed to raise the excellence of healthcare professional practice and what patients understand about their health.

V+R Twins are used by professionals and people as a companion to learn, understand and act through virtual experiences that are fully integrated into the daily life. It brings the promise of a more precise and inclusive healthcare.
Creating V+R Twins for Healthcare
V+R twins represent one or more physiological systems (interconnected cells, tissues, and organs that perform a function). They are generated and updated from individual health data (e.g., imaging, blood tests, genetic data, medical records, etc.) and guarantee a degree of fidelity to Reality.
V+R Twins combine artificial intelligence (AI) and medical and biological knowledge to allow healthcare professionals to maintain control over their uses, such as representing and combining information, predicting future health, and testing the effect of potential treatments.

Developing Precision Medicine in Partnership With Each Person
V+R Twins will contribute to a new approach to care, promoting bilateral exchange of knowledge and expertise between patients and professionals. By using V+R Twins each one can show the other what they feel, what they know, what they expect, etc. Each one gains greater power thanks to the information provided by V+R representation that combines the expertise of a whole care team, with persons as participants.
Combining Expertise to Provide Better Care
Healthcare professionals are committed to providing their patients with the best possible care every day. However, with care pathways becoming increasingly complex – especially in the case of chronic, rare, or serious diseases – it is becoming difficult to coordinate everything effectively. Everyone operates with skill in their own field, but communication between specialties, hospitals, and community doctors relies on specialized documents and can hinder the harmonization of a person's care.
V+R Twins address this challenge by providing a common representation of the medical information needed for each specialized practice and sharing it with other specialties using a common framework to support shared decision making. By supporting smoother collaboration, V+R Twins free up medical time, improve the quality of communication between professionals, and make it easier to involve the patient. It is a new way of caring together that is simpler, more person-centered, and more effective.
Improving Prevention and Care in Cardiology, Oncology and Neurology to Live In Good Health
Complex chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and Alzheimer's disease have a lasting impact on people's quality of life. These conditions are responsible for the vast majority of healthy life years lost in both adults and the elderly, not to mention certain complex pediatric cases.
Faced with these challenges, MEDITWIN focuses on both prevention and treatment in these diseases, because early risk detection and rapid intervention can save more lives and prevent serious complications.

Transforming medical practices
MEDITWIN aims to advance research and development of virtual twins specialized in cardiology, neurology, and oncology. They are intended to be integrated into digital medical devices.
MEDITWIN is based on a sovereign industry-grade platform that integrates cutting-edge knowledge and facilitates collaboration between healthcare professionals within the framework of precision medicine. It will provide healthcare professionals with tools to explore treatment scenarios, refine therapeutic protocols, and offer personalized care, particularly by incorporating multimodal data into virtual twins. It will also pave the way for the identification of new biomarkers, enhancing diagnostic and prevention capabilities.
Collaborative innovation across the MEDITWIN ecosystem is characterized by six pillars:
1. Factory of transdisciplinar knowledge & know-how
Within the virtual twin, the aim is to bring together the disciplines of healthcare and digital technology to develop innovative.
2. Patient empowerment
Virtual twins are developed around patients, who are involved throughout the project within a patient experience council.
3. V+R Twins for real impact
The impact of virtual twins is demonstrated through rigorous evaluations conducted by medical teams, measuring improvements in practices and clinical outcomes.
4. Equity
Access to virtual twin technologies is ensured for as many patients as possible by establishing accessible standards at the European level.
5. Strengthening healthcare systems
Technological advances are converted into industrialized solutions within a regional healthcare sector, enabling cost reduction, improved hospital workflows, and accelerated adoption.
6. Sharing scientific and medical advances
Regular scientific publications and accessible events will ensure the widespread dissemination of the knowledge acquired, strengthening the visibility and impact of the project. The Virtual Human Twin Experience Symposium, whose 10th edition was held at the Institut Pasteur in October 2024[1], was a first step in this direction.
With financial support from the French government as part of France 2030, MEDITWIN is positioning itself as a catalyst for medical progress, sustainably transforming the healthcare sector through virtual twins.
