University of New Orleans Adapts Digital Manufacturing Tools from Delmia Corp. to expand Engineering Curriculum

Students to explore the integrated power of Product Lifecyle Management with CATIA and DELMIA .

Auburn Hills Mich., USA - July 13, 2004 - Delmia Corp., a Dassault Systèmes company (Nasdaq: DASTY: Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), today announced that it has entered into an academic partnership with the University of New Orleans, supplying the College of Engineering with a suite of simulation tools. The college will incorporate DELMIA’s V5 DPM ENVISION ASSEMBLY™ and DELMIA V5 Human solutions into its engineering curriculum.

“Our goal is to develop courses that will take undergraduate students from conceptual design in CATIA through maintenance with DELMIA digital manufacturing tools, providing them a complete product life cycle analysis experience,” said Professor Gregory Dobson, Ph.D. “We want students to gain an understanding of simulation tools so that when they begin their careers, they will understand the tools’ capabilities.”

V5 DPM ENVISION ASSEMBLY is a 3D simulation tool that enables users to visualize and validate assembly/disassembly process scenarios early in the design process. By linking product and process design, improvements are implemented early in the design stage, reducing product launch time and cost. V5 Human solutions allow users to create and manipulate advanced, user-defined digital human manikins, or "workers," within the DELMIA environment. Users can assess human-to-product interaction and worker-process analysis.

In addition to having the tools in their university curriculum, students who are trained in simulation will have an opportunity to work at the Simulation Based Design Center, a non-profit organization operating under the direction of the University of New Orleans College of Engineering and the Gulf Coast Region Maritime Technology Center. This research facility is located in the Maritime Technology Center of Excellence adjacent to Northrop Grumman Ship Systems Avondale Operations.

"The University of New Orleans engineering students who move on to the Simulation Design Center will take the knowledge they will have gained in using DELMIA's simulation tools and apply it to the real-world challenges that the shipbuilding industry faces,” said David Papp, DELMIA account manager. “They will be able to use their DELMIA simulation software knowledge to validate ship operations, crew manning requirements, and ship construction sequences prior to any steel being cut. Their ability to use DELMIA's simulation tools at an early stage in the product lifecycle will allow them to simulate a ship build and make changes based on the simulation results to improve production efficiencies at the shipyards."
