Seoul (South Korea), January 11, 2001 - In a ceremony held here today, Seoul National University (SNU), IBM, and Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ:DASTY, Bourse de Paris) opened the University's Digital Shipbuilding Innovation Center (DSIC). A joint project of the three organizations, the DSIC will accelerate innovation in the field of shipbuilding, by combining world class research from the University's Department of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering with leading software solutions for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) from IBM and Dassault Systemes.<br/>
The Center will implement PLM technology, including CATIA, ENOVIA and DELMIA software, and will receive IBM support to provide students with complete curricula in digital shipbuilding. The DSIC will use the PLM software to document and transfer best practices to the industry. It will also act as a source of innovation for the Dassault Systemes/IBM suite of shipbuilding solutions based on V5.<br/>
Said Dr. Jong Gye Shin, professor of the Department of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Seoul National University, and head of the DSIC, "A major source of additional competitiveness for shipbuilders is improving collaboration between Engineering and Manufacturing.
