Seoul National University, Dassault Aviation, IBM and Dassault Systemes Establish Digital Innovation Center for Aerospace Engineering
Seoul (South Korea), May 16, 2001 - Seoul National University (SNU), Dassault Aviation, IBM and Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq:DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) announced today the opening of the Digital Innovation Center for Aerospace Engineering (DICAE) within Seoul National University.
DICAE will act as a leading center for accelerating innovation in aerospace. The Center will promote world class research in analysis and simulation conducted by the Seoul National University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, while using both CATIA Version 5 technology from IBM and Dassault Systemes, and best practices developed by Dassault Aviation.
The Center will use CATIA solutions to develop its educational curricula, and to conduct advanced analysis and simulation methodologies that can be transferred to the aerospace industry.
“Success in the aerospace industry in the twenty-first century depends upon a high degree of innovation, not only in the development of mass transportation aircraft but, especially, in the creation of a new generation of personal flight vehicles that must be capable of three-dimensional movement and that can be piloted by an ordinary person without special training. This timely creation of DICAE at Seoul National University will enhance our capability to take a leading role in such futuristic design and simulation of aircraft, and help our students apply important digital technologies through the use of the world’s leading CAD/CAM/CAE software, CATIA,” said Dr. Seung Jo Kim, head of the DICAE and professor of the school of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Seoul National University.
“ This partnership will not only provide young Korean aerospace researchers with cutting edge tools in the field of mechanical and aerospace engineering, but it will also allow SNU to maximize the benefits from its research co-operation agreements with Dassault Aviation. Both Korean and French engineers will use common tools and speak the same language in their joint work. It is an important milestone for Dassault Aviation in Korea as well as for the Korean aerospace community, because it strengthens the country’s capabilities in advanced performance aircraft design and development,” added Bruno Stoufflet, vice president, research and technology, Dassault Aviation.
“The Korean aerospace industry has adopted CATIA as their digital design solutions. Analysis and Simulation are becoming major components for accelerating the high quality product development. We look forward to working with SNU to support the growth of the Korean aerospace industry on a global level,” explained Byoung Chan Na, manager, IBM Product Lifecycle Management Korea.
