The digital enterprise Center is a $6 million applied-research facility located in the Knoy Hall of Technology on the university's West Lafayette campus. The center opened in June 2000 with one laboratory and now has four labs.
The Purdue center’s goal is to produce graduates who are intimately familiar with state-of-the-practice information-technology solutions and can work on group projects that are brougth to the school through its corporate partnerships.
Dassault Systemes is providing software and technical support for a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) laboratory. PLM enables collaboration at various stages of the product life, such as new product design or design modification to address manufacturing issues or customer requests for modification.
Joel Lemke, CEO of ENOVIA, said, "We are extremely pleased to be part of the partnership with Purdue, each of us leaders in our respective domains. The next generation of product will be centered on innovation and will require future leaders to understand the significant changes in the enterprise in order to achieve this level of innovation. Together, we will move to the next phases of this vision of the digital enterprise."
Lemke said PLM promises to reduce the time to market of new products. The Internet-based technology allows industry to share research and development information with its partners and people to collaborate regardless of their physical location.
ENOVIA Portal Solutions, together with CATIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA 3dCom and ENOVIA DMU Navigator deploy possible scenarios where the Dassault Systemes solutions shows the strength of PLM and at the same time introduce the SmarTeam suite from SmarTeam Inc., to increase the flexibility of the center.
Gary R. Bertoline, professor and department head of computer graphics technology, said, "This technology gives our students the opportunity to learn to support design and manufacture of products through graphic simulation."

Purdue's School of Technology produces more bachelor of science graduates than any other technology school in the nation.
