Paris, France –October 3, 2006– IBM and Dassault Systèmes (DS) (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced that Oyster Marine, an international market leader in yacht design has invested in CATIA V5 Yacht Solutions to improve its impressive design, construction and manufacturing processes. Oyster Marine has installed six seats of CATIA V5 to reduce production hours and to capture design, engineering and process knowledge, to increase efficiency, quality and accuracy for its international clients.
“Evolution is the driving force in the design process and for us traditional CAD had reached its limitations,” says Oyster Marine managing director Alan Brook. “We are committed to learning, innovating and producing the world’s best yachts, and have chosen CATIA V5 because it is the world’s best PLM system. It’s a perfect fit.” Oyster Marine designs and manufactures some of the most desirable sailboats on the market today. Pride, craftsmanship and years of experience go into every Oyster yacht. Oyster Marine has invested in CATIA V5 to increase the opportunity for innovation by introducing more automation in its design and manufacturing processes.
CATIA V5 will enable Oyster Marine to increase efficiency and reduce time to market by automatically managing links between engineering drawings, the bill of materials (BOM) and all phases of manufacture including the computer numerical control (CNC) processes that the company is using to make its hull and deck molds. Oyster Marine has introduced synchronous collaboration so that everyone involved in a project both internally and within the extended supply chain uses the same version of the drawings.
For review and mark-up Oyster Marine will use 3D XML, Dassault Systèmes’ universal XML-based format which enables everyone involved in a project, from the design department right through the extended network of partners and suppliers, to communicate 3D information quickly and easily. The ability to incorporate rich PLM information into technical documents, marketing brochures and other communications using 3D XML will also help make Oyster Marine more agile and responsive.
Oyster Marine selected Transcat PLM Ltd, as its PLM supplier based on its considerable specialist knowledge of the marine industry and experience in installing and maintaining Yacht Solutions and PLM in similar sized companies within and beyond the marine sector. Transcat PLM is providing ongoing training for Oyster Marine’s staff to help them achieve the considerable business benefits that this type of PLM system can provide.
