MSC Group Inc. Chooses CATIA V5 to Leapfrog Global Expansion
Singapore and Paris, France, 3 décembre 2001. MSC Group, Inc., along with IBM and Dassault Systemes, today announced MSC Group’s strategic investment in CATIA V5 from Dassault Systemes and IBM. The purchase of over 100 CATIA V5 licenses by mid-2002 is part of a strategic and value-added move that will unify and enhance MSC’s worldwide application offer, driving it to be the first to break past the dichotomized, sequential and inefficient traditional supply chain solutions. MSC will be using PLM Solutions from IBM and Dassault Systemes as a true e-business platform driving a completely innovative industrial business model, placing MSC at the forefront of the "e-market" concept for end-to-end manufacturing. The fact that MSC has chosen IBM emphasizes the continuous relevance and e-business tie of the IBM PLM Solution set enabling completely new business models for the manufacturing industry.
MSC Group’s main capability is to provide one-stop integrated manufacturing supply chain solutions. With core competencies in industrial and product design and manufacturing solutions, MSC is positioning itself as a world-class leader in the present global manufacturing community. The decision to purchase CATIA V5 Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software for design, engineering and manufacturing collaboration stems from MSC’s vision to be a leading one-stop manufacturing solutions provider for the whole spectrum of the manufacturing supply chain. With CATIA V5 in place on MSC Group’s i-msc.com manufacturing supply chain portal, MSC will be able to dictate the manufacturing tasks and project path within the integrated spectrum of manufacturing. In addition, its partners and suppliers will be able to enhance overall productivity and optimize their products and processes. This ultimately results in greater overall organization efficiency. The software’s ease of use and ability to handle tasks from conceptual design to manufacturing, including complex moulding, is a key value proposition in MSC Group’s reaching out to global electrical, electronic and automotive industries.
“IBM’s global presence and ability to provide a total end-to-end solution is key to MSC Group’s success in the global arena. Besides software, IBM’s strength in hardware, its hosting capabilities and its worldwide network are strategic to MSC Group’s extensive market reach objectives. CATIA software is a leader among product life cycle solutions in its ability to enhance an individual’s or department’s task productivity. We greatly value such a contribution to greater competitiveness of the enterprise and anticipate that our partners and our Group as a whole stand to reap significant benefits from this investment,” said Dr. Wee Yue Chew, Chairman of MSC Group, at the contract signing ceremony.
In witnessing the signing ceremony, Mr. Phang Cheng Kwang, Executive Director of Singapore Precision Engineering and Tooling Association (SPETA), commented, “The advent of information technology and globalization has changed the way we do business. In the new knowledge-based economy, more e-businesses are now taking off rapidly. SPETA members must keep abreast of these new developments and align their businesses in accordance to these changing and competitive international trends.” The SPETA believes that MSC’s new business model will allow Singapore to maintain a spider in the web for global manufacturing activities.
Dr. Wee added, “Today’s global manufacturing environment encompasses more than the integration of capabilities, resources and solutions or the ability to provide a seamless user-friendly and e-enabled business system for total supply chain management. It requires the value-added element of quality and innovative services such as industrial design and prototyping, in which MSC Group has substantial experience”.

"As innovator, MSC has been setting very tough goals, against which they selected the IBM Product Lifecycle Management Solution portfolio as their integration platform and sought IBM's partnership to help achieve their objectives. It clearly illustrates that IBM’s Product Lifecycle Management Solution portfolio and support continues to be of significant relevance to customers who operate at the very edge of what new business models in the industry require. We will remain relentless to allow MSC to continuously enhance their global value proposition and change current industry structures. We simply want to be part of it," said Raoul Van Engelshoven, Director of Product Lifecycle Manufacturing, IBM Asia Pacific.
Francis Bernard, Executive Committee Advisor of Dassault Systemes, added, "Our Product Lifecycle Management Solution is based on the Version 5 revolutionary architecture. It is designed to support the application processes of all the manufacturing industries - such as Automotive, Aerospace, Electrical & Electronics, Fabrication & Assembly - and to meet the new challenges of globalization through the 3d Collaborative workplace and knowledge management concepts. MSC has recognized the strength of our products and we are proud to be integrated in their vision."
