Leading Korean Automotive Service Provider V-ENS Showcases PLM Solutions from IBM and Dassault Systèmes

PLM Solutions on display at new state of the art engineering and product development center to help V-ENS win new business

Seoul, Korea and Paris, France – April 1, 2004 – IBM and Dassault Systèmes (Nasdaq: DASTY, Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) announced today that Vehicle Engineering and Solutions, Korea (V-ENS), a subsidiary of LG CNS, a leading Korean IT engineering services provider, is showcasing their Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Solutions at its recently inaugurated Engineering & Product Development Center. The center is open to the public and shows how PLM technology improves the end-to-end automotive development process.

V-ENS chose the collaborative product development platform to acquire a competitive advantage by combining PLM Solutions from IBM and Dassault Systèmes with its automotive engineering service capabilities. Through demonstrations of CATIA V5, SMARTEAM and DELMIA at the center, V-ENS clients and visitors see first hand how combining PLM and engineering services helps the company to deliver innovative, high-quality services to the automotive industry.

V-ENS is a leading engineering service provider in the automotive industry. Its new growth strategy focuses on automotive-related projects, both in Korea and abroad.  Since PLM Solutions from IBM and Dassault Systèmes are the standard for vehicle development worldwide, V-ENS’ investment in PLM has helped the company win new contracts, including compact car development for Proton, Malaysia’s national automaker.  To capitalize on its growing success, V-ENS plans to extend its engineering services based on the new PLM platform to other industries.

“We can achieve our objective to become a leading global engineering service provider by combining our strong IT engineering service capabilities with world-leading PLM technologies from IBM and Dassault Systèmes,” said WanSik Yoon, president, V-ENS. “Our Engineering & Product Development Centre is a testimonial to the strategic partnership we have with the two companies, and demonstrates how automakers can become more competitive by improving collaboration between engineering and manufacturing.”

“V-ENS is using IBM PLM Solutions to develop new processes for streamlined product development,” said Raoul Van Engelshoven, vice president Product Lifecycle Management, IBM Asia Pacific.  “Many global automakers are achieving success using IBM PLM Solutions and we can contribute to V-ENS’ growing leadership in the automotive engineering service business.  We will also help V-ENS expand into other industrial domains by supporting their global engineering innovation center.”

“With CATIA V5, SMARTEAM and DELMIA, V-ENS can leverage its engineering services capabilities to their full extent by simulating, integrating and optimizing all aspects of automotive development to manufacturing,” said Christian Nardin, Managing Director, Dassault Systèmes Asia. “Not only does this enable V-ENS to cut costs and development time for its customers, but it also allows the company to improve designs and processes early on in the development cycle and share knowledge with its customers in a common 3D collaborative work space.”
