IBM to Sell Complete SmarTeam Portfolio for collaborative Product Data Management across the Supply Chain
White Plains, NY and Suresnes, France - October 2, 2001. IBM and Dassault Systèmes (NASDAQ:DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) today announced that IBM will complete its SmarTeam product line with the addition of SmarTeam e-Supply Chain applications to its Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) portfolio.
IBM’s PLM offerings deliver 3D product management and development capabilities to manufacturing companies using innovation as a competitive differentiator. Dassault’s SmarTeam e-Supply Chain solutions enable up-to-date and precise sharing of product information between a dispersed network of suppliers and customers, subject matter experts and subcontractors across the Internet. Exploiting the latest web concepts for collaboration, all members of the supply chain can work together irrespective of the native design systems used to create the product information.
Etienne Droit, vice president Sales and Marketing, Dassault Systemes, explained, “Delivering state-of-the-art collaboration across the e-supply chain is a key objective of our SmarTeam portfolio because we anticipate that this domain will drive significant savings for manufacturing industries and accelerate product innovation. SmarTeam now allows organizations to easily publish project data, form extended project teams, and promote e-collaboration and enforce security – all within a Web-based environment, particularly adapted to the extended enterprise. SmarTeam represents a new way to bring innovative and profitable products to the market effectively.”
According to industry analyst firm CIMData the collaborative Product Development management (cPDm) sector will have annual growth of an impressive 36 percent.
Ed Miller, president, CIMData, said, “ The SmarTeam products provide an excellent extension to the suite of solutions already offered by IBM's Product Lifecycle Management portfolio. SmarTeam's offerings provide solid capabilities to support many of the small and mid-sized enterprises that IBM works with around the world. The integration of SmarTeam with CATIA also extends these offerings to provide an alternative gateway into the CATIA design environment. These capabilities help to complete the total suite of offerings from IBM and Dassault Systemes.”
Herve Rolland, vice president Global PDM Solutions, IBM Product Lifecycle Management, said, “IBM knowledge and technology, coupled with SmarTeam applications provide our customers with new strategic opportunities to gain competitive advantage and grow their businesses. The complete SmarTeam application suite, that we now offer our customers, will enable them to achieve greater efficiency in design data tracking, revision management, and the management of the entire product lifecycle. ”
