IBM, Dassault Systemes, and Technion University Sign Partnership to Teach PLM to Students

Product Lifecycle Management Competency Center at Israel’s Technion University will educate future industrial leaders and innovators

Haifa, Israel and Paris, France – June 26, 2002 – The Technion University, IBM, and Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) today announced the creation of a Product Lifecycle Management Competency Center (PLMCC) in the Mechanical Engineering faculty at the Technion University in Israel to educate students in the field of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
IBM will provide full support to the Competency Center by instructing professors who will in turn lecture students in the Advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) laboratory. Students will also have the opportunity to discover and receive hands-on training on CATIA V5 and V5 Component Application Architecture (CAA). In addition, joint seminars will be set up to inform local industrial leaders of the benefits of PLM.
"IBM has a legacy of preparing technology professionals for the demands of working in the real world,” says Ed Petrozelli, general manager, IBM Product Lifecycle Management. “With pressure to reduce costs at universities, we saw an opportunity to prepare the next generation of CAD/CAM operators using the most advanced PLM solutions rather than entry-level CAD software that would not prepare them for life after graduation. Our investment in HEAT, which we will continue, supports the needs of students, universities and our customers, not to mention the broader demands of the business world.”

“The Technion, as a research university involved in new technology development, design and innovation for teaching and research, believes in the great potential of state-of-the-art CAD systems,” says Dr. Anath Fischer, Department Head - Laboratory for Computer Graphics and CAD, Technion University. “Systems such as CATIA and ENOVIA have the capability of accelerating and assimilating new technological developments. We are pleased to launch this new cooperative venture between the Technion, Dassault Systemes and IBM and look forward to productive collaboration."
