IBM and Dassault Systemes Strategic Alliance Delivers 3D Product Lifecycle Management Solutions

San Francisco, CA and Paris, France - February 19, 2002 - IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) today announced that their strategic alliance delivers end-to-end 3D Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions. The delivery of these 3D PLM solutions fosters integration of 3D product content and knowledge on top of a robust technology infrastructure to further enable design collaboration with suppliers, streamlining of production and service processes, and the establishment of a feedback loop between actual customer experiences from sales, marketing and engineering. These 3D PLM solutions link complementary e-business applications into a collaborative workspace, through open standards.
3D PLM enables customers to optimize their business processes within engineering, manufacturing, maintenance & support, in collaborative workspaces and sharing a common product, process, and resource model (PPR). With PPR, companies can capture, share and reuse knowledge all along the product lifecycle. The CAA V5 open architecture allows extension and integration of this solution within multiple enterprise environments.
The PLM market, driven by IBM’s twenty-year history with Dassault Systemes, has grown to become one of IBM’s strategic e-business pillars. Since the creation of the IBM PLM business unit in April 2000, both companies have continuously extended their contributions.
• Through their global sales alliance, IBM and its Business Partners are the worldwide sales and support channel for Dassault Systemes’ CATIA and ENOVIA 3D PLM products.
 • As part of their very tight technological collaboration, ENOVIA Portal Solutions V5R8 and ENOVIA Life Cycle Applications (LCA) are now leveraging IBM Websphere middleware. In addition, Dassault Systemes has selected IBM DB2* database software as preferred data management technology for the ENOVIA solutions. These solutions are being delivered to customers today.
 • The Dassault Systemes 3D PLM solutions run across the spectrum of IBM hardware including the IBM ThinkPad* Model A30P - the first laptop ever certified to run CATIA V5, joining the previous certifications of the IBM IntelliStation* and eServer* pSeries*, and xSeries*.
 • The two companies also reinforced their global services partnership through an agreement that establishes IBM Global Services’ PLM practice as a premier consulting partner of Dassault Systemes.

The companies made these announcements as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of their relationship at IBM PartnerWorld2002 in San Francisco.
“It's very impressive in the IT industry for two leading technology providers, such as IBM and Dassault Systemes, to remain as tightly integrated as they have been for over 20 years,” said Ed Miller, president, CIMdata Inc., a leading strategic consulting firm. “This renewed alliance fortifies an already well established relationship that has successfully provided competitive solutions for thousands of customers worldwide. It reflects an increased commitment to an industry that is becoming increasingly visible and critical in today's global economy.”
“Business schools teach that alliances are a short-lived phenomenon but, as we celebrate our 20th anniversary with Dassault Systemes at PartnerWorld, we realize that some rules – like Olympic records – are meant to be broken,” said Ed Petrozelli, general manager, IBM Product Lifecycle Management. “The secret to our mutual success here is that we each contribute our core competencies, and together with Dassault Systemes’ innovative products atop IBM's infrastructure, services and financing, we provide real industry value to the world’s rapidly evolving manufacturing base.”
“IBM has consistently offered their global skills and industry-proven technologies needed to support our 3D PLM solutions,” said Bernard Charles, president of Dassault Systemes “These technologies are crucial to our customers’ abilities to deploy mission-critical best practices. We offer more e-business solutions on IBM than any of our competitors, and will continue to expand the initiatives within this alliance to bring even more innovative solutions to our common global customer base.”
