Major enhancements for process coverage with 19 new products in the world's leading product development solution

Paris (France), 26 June 2001 – IBM and Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) announced today the launch of Version 5 Release 7 (V5R7) of CATIA, the world's leading business process automation solution for product creation and product development. Announced simultaneously with ENOVIA Version 5 Release 7 (V5R7), these solutions mutually reinforce IBM and Dassault Systemes' extensive Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) offering. Introduced only three months after V5R6, CATIA V5R7 will be available worldwide on July 13, 2001 on both the Windows and UNIX platforms. CATIA V5R7 incorporates major improvements to its existing products, and introduces 19 new products, bringing to 97 the total number of CATIA V5 products. Hundreds of enhancements and new capabilities make CATIA V5R7 the most comprehensive solution for collaborative design across the entire supply chain, supporting large-scale deployments across all industries, in particular Automotive, Aerospace, Industrial Machinery, Consumer Goods, Electronics and Shipbuilding.
CATIA V5R7 provides companies of all sizes maximum usability on even the most complex parts and the largest assemblies. Allowing all customers to deploy the leading edge business practices of PLM, CATIA V5R7 further enhances its TeamPDM product and offers a seamless integration with the entire SmarTeam portfolio now sold by IBM. Complementing the ENOVIA Solutions, which cover large-scale product and process end-to-end development, the SmarTeam portfolio further enhances IBM and Dassault Systemes' presence among manufacturers and their supply chains, giving companies of all types a wide choice of adaptable PLM solutions.
In the automotive industry, CATIA V5R7 introduces a revolutionary approach for Class A design which further reduces time-to-market by compressing the development process from style to die. CATIA automotive Class A, developed on the new P3 platform, not only offers a new look and feel but also provides unequalled possibilities to interact with the system bringing new levels of ease of use and associativity to this complex task. In addition, new capabilities for associative morphing of complex shapes and joining of complex sections complete the toolset for associative and generative design iteration in the automotive body in white design process, providing maximum productivity and supporting customers' goals of reduced time to market.
Customers wishing to increase their competitive advantage by moving from their old generation CAD to CATIA V5R7 can start with the powerful base tool set delivered with the P1 platform and thus take advantage of the extended capabilities for design automation. In particular CATIA V5R7 significantly increases and extends the product development process coverage with a focus on both industrial machinery and consumer goods.
The new release also includes major enhancements in drafting, surface design (Healing) and data exchange (Iges Step, etc.), while offering a unique scalability allowing customers to choose components from the P1 and P2 platforms for the most cost-effective solution.
CATIA V5R7 continues to deliver best-in-class integration for Analysis solutions with unique generative structural analysis capabilities for hybrid thick and thin part assemblies, providing unmatched speed in product optimization. In addition, for the first time in the industry, the integration within the Digital Mock-up (DMU) of the Engineering analysis results, allows the evaluation of the impact of part or assembly deformation under operational conditions within the entire digital mock-up.
V5R7 is a significant milestone for CATIA Electrical solutions, with the delivery of a fully integrated electromechanical suite of design tools for the first time. The solution spans a wide range of applications, from logical design to 3D physical definition, enabling, for example, wires harnesses to be integrated in the Digital Mock-up, around a unique V5 electrical database.
This new version also includes advanced piping and tubing design applications which provide the tools required for the definition of fluid delivery systems (Hydraulics, Cooling, etc) across the Industrial Machinery, Automotive, Aerospace and Shipbuilding industries. These applications provide much more than a geometric representation of the systems, complete with built-in logic and intelligence (Knowledgeware Rules & Checks) which deliver the complete system definition and can guide the designer through the design to ensure corporate standards are adhered to.
CATIA's Manufacturing solutions now cover all needs from Lathe to 5 Axis Machining, leveraging the built-in knowledgeware of the Version 5 Architecture. Lathe machining and 4-axis milling continue the delivery of easy-to-use, highly productive manufacturing solutions
"With CATIA V5 Release 7, Dassault Systemes further broadens its product portfolio to address advanced collaborative product development needs. The knowledge sharing capabilities of CATIA V5R7 enable the capture and propagation of the value of products through the entire chain of business processes. In all industry segments, adopters of the CATIA V5 technology will find substantial capabilities in the new application suites to enhance their competitive drive into global markets," commented Ken Versprille, Ph.D. Research Director, D.H. Brown Associates, Inc.
