Hong Kong Productivity Council, MTECH, and Dassault Systemes to develop Knowledge-based Engineering Wizard for CATIA V5 for SMBs
Hong Kong, China, September 16, 2002 – The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), MTECH Engineering Co. Ltd. (MTECH), and Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) today announced the signing of a cooperation memorandum to develop a knowledge-based engineering wizard for CATIA V5 knowledgeware and TeamPDM for the precision plastic and packaging industry.
The mission of the development project is to provide a common, off-the-shelf engineering wizard to facilitate SMB manufacturers’ understanding and utilization of knowledge-driven design methodologies. The goal is to enhance product innovation while reducing development time. With the installation of CATIA V5 and TeamPDM, HKPC will develop a Knowledge-Based Design Wizard for Precision Plastic Components, Gear with Wire-cut Machining, and Product Packaging. Dassault Systemes business partner MTECH will provide support.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to transform the local manufacturing industry from labor intensive and low cost production to a knowledge-based and high value-added model using the 3D Product Life Cycle Management (3D PLM) technology,” said L.M. Li, general manager (Manufacturing Technology), HKPC.
“Knowledge is the fuel of product and process innovation. The competitiveness of the Hong Kong manufacturing industry relies on how we can capture, share, deploy and create knowledge to make product development more effective and efficient,” said Stephen Au, managing director, MTECH Engineering Co. Ltd. “CATIA V5 is the leading 3D PLM solution to perform these tasks. We are delighted to co-operate with the HKPC, which acts as the pilot to promote and transfer this technology to the Hong Kong and South China manufacturing industry.”
“We have seen several major technology evolutions in the short history of computer graphics. From 2D Drafting, it evolved to 3D Modeling and Digital Mockup, and now we deliver, with the Version 5 architecture, the capability to store and reuse Knowledge,” said Francis Bernard, executive committee advisor and board member, Dassault Systemes. “It is a tremendous tool to accelerate innovation and to reduce time to market. We are honored to team with HKPC and MTECH to allow the Hong Kong manufacturing industry to benefit from such technology.”
