Paris (France), April 15, 2002 – Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) today announced the signing of a development agreement making Forming Technologies Incorporated (FTI) a partner within the CAA V5 Software Community Program. Under this agreement FTI will expand the 3D PLM product portfolio by developing and selling a V5-based sheet metal formability assessment and blank prediction solution.
FTI develops a V5 integrated application called “CATFORM3D CAA V5 Based” that lets CATIA V5 customers in automotive, aerospace, E&E and appliance sectors avoid potential formability problems in sheet metal parts early in the design cycle, and consequently reduce the number of changes required downstream. “CATFORM3D CAA V5 Based” will specify areas of potential splitting, wrinkling and thinning as well as predict the developed blank shape. It will also provide information relative to the quality of the finished panel, potential assembly issues and estimate material cost requirements at an early stage within the design cycle.
With CATIA V5 and DELMIA V5, Dassault Systemes delivers a complete range of solutions to cover end-to-end formed sheet metal processes, from design to manufacturing. It allows fast part design creation and modification propagation down to die tooling design and manufacturing. It also includes the CATIA V5 Analysis Solutions, a unique set of knowledge-based structural analysis tools for parts and assemblies, to produce rapid design-to-analysis iterations in a very intuitive and user-friendly environment.
The powerful and easy-to-use functionalities of CATIA V5 Solutions combined with the unique expertise of FTI, enable product designers and engineers to perform early and accurate formability and cost analyses, and ultimately reduce potential errors and speed the product development and manufacturing life cycle.
“The FTI V5-based application, by complementing the highly productive CATIA V5 portfolio, will provide real savings and innovation to the Automotive and Aerospace industries. Our customers will benefit from an end-to-end V5 stamped Sheet Metal Solution. Once more, we demonstrate the openness of the CAA V5 architecture and its perfect support of analysis applications”, said Gérard Lecina, Director, Research and Development, CATIA CAE Solutions, Dassault Systemes.
Medhat Karima, FTI’s President, commented: “Our long-established association with Dassault Systemes has proven to be beneficial for our customers. By packaging FTI pragmatic solutions within the Dassault Systemes innovative V5 architecture, I am confident that we can provide state-of-the-art solutions to enhance our customers’ competitive position in bringing cost-efficient quality products to the market faster.”
