IBM* and Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq:DASTY) announced today that Philips Semiconductors is implementing ENOVIAPM** to manage product data in conjunction with the company’s Semiconductors Product Information Network (SPINE) project.
Eindhoven (The Netherlands) and Paris (France) - May 31, 2000--The initial agreement represents 40 ENOVIAPM seats, as well as IBM services and training.
The SPINE database comprises 150,000 items related to 32,000 products. In the project’s first phase, all organizations within Philips Semiconductors can request real-time bills of material (BOMs) for any product, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from any company location. Using ENOVIAPM to manage the data makes the product information error-free, because modifications to product structures (which comprise BOMs) are taken into account immediately as they are filed. Currently, about 100 users worldwide use the SPINE system.
Henk Lammers, manufacturing demand manager at Philips Semiconductors, believes that SPINE is a first step in creating better systems worldwide. Philips Semiconductors chose ENOVIAPM on the basis of the system’s powerful PDM functions, accessible worldwide through ENOVIAPM’s extensive Web support, and IBM’s practical experience in the electronics industry acquired, for example, during its own successful implementation of ENOVIAPM in the IBM Personal Systems Group, where more than 5,000 users at 30 locations are linked to a common database.
Working together closely, IBM and Philips Semiconductors implemented ENOVIAPM to align with Philips Semiconductors’ business objectives and working methods. Extensions planned for the project entail incorporating specific needs and feedback from target groups within Philips Semiconductors, including management of drawings and specifications related to bills-of-material.
