Dassault Systemes Wins International Award for Training Software

Dassault Systemes’ Companion V5 Receives ICERC 2001 Silver Medal for Educational and Industrial Training Excellence

Paris (France) – January 9, 2002 – Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq : DASTY; Euronext Paris : #13065, DSY.PA) and the E.N.S, France's largest educational institution for training personnel, announced that the Companion V5 training software developed by Dassault Systemes won the silver medal at the International Competition Educational Research Creation (ICERC) competition organized by the CERPET (Centre d’Etudes Pour la Rénovation Pédagogique de l’Enseignement Technique) and sponsored by the national Ministries of Education, Research and Francophone Affairs. The award was given during the EDUCATEC show in Paris, France on November 23, 2001, and included 200 entries from around the world. Entries were judged according to ease-of-learning of training program concepts, added value of principles taught, and applicability of training programs to industrial context.
Companion V5 software provides a complete set of tools for training future industrial technicians and engineers in the use of three-dimensional design technologies and techniques. The same set of tools of can be used by industrial manufacturing personnel who need to deploy new technologies, by software developers who want to familiarize themselves with new industrial methodologies, and by engineering schools that want to enrich theory with experience in handling real-life industrial data.
As part of Dassault Systemes’ 3D PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) platform, Companion V5 contains easy-to-follow, fast-paced training courses introducing CATIA, ENOVIA and DELMIA product capabilities. It constitutes a virtual training center by offering theory-based lessons, hands-on exercises, and trade know-how and expertise all in a single, on-line program. Companion V5 also provides a development platform, called Companion Studio, that can be used to create complementary functionalities to address a company’s specific training requirements. Owing to these capabilities, Companion Studio is currently deployed within industry to capitalize best practices and methodologies, and thereby benefit from automatic integration within the 3D PLM platform.
"Companion V5 is an accurate and efficient tool that lets you develop courses based on existing training modules created by other users, such as teachers, and industrial manufacturers, and even modules developed by Dassault Systemes ", explains Jean-Yves Yung, Vice-President, Global Services of Dassault Systemes. "Its rich content and rapid deployment relative to real-life industrial cases have revolutionized training in this area."

"Companion V5 has enabled us to develop in an intuitive manner a training program that integrates theoretical, mechanical know-how with CATIA expertise to address real-life industrial scenarios ", says Eric Savattero, Training Manager at ENS Cachan. "The use of varied learning techniques and media (video, voice, and direct manipulation) available with Companion V5 has been in large part responsible for the outstanding quality and well-rounded development of our project.
