Dassault Systemes Welcomes Leading Car Crash Simulation Editor Mecalog as CAA V5 Software Partner
Suresnes (France) – June 24, 2002– Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) today announced that Mecalog has joined the Software Community Program as a CAA V5 Software Partner. Mecalog will develop and sell the new generation M-Crash environment integrated within the CATIA Analysis V5 solutions. The new product, M-Crash CAA V5 Based, will provide transportation companies with industry-proven crash modeling capabilities fully integrated within the CATIA V5 environment.
Mecalog has a recognized expertise in crash simulation thanks to more than ten years of experience with key OEM of the transportation industry. After a successful CATIA V4 partnership, Mecalog will now leverage the V5 technology to provide CATIA V5 users with an integrated and associative industry-specific environment for crash simulation.
CATIA V5 Analysis Solutions deliver a unique set of knowledge-based structural analysis tools for parts and assemblies with fast design-to-analysis iterations in an intuitive and user-friendly environment. As part of the CATIA Analysis portfolio, FEM Surface 2 (Finite Element Modeling) enables analysts to rapidly and effectively generate associative mesh from complex surface parts with advanced control on mesh specifications.
“The unique and open CAA V5 architecture will allow Mecalog to provide the automotive industry with an integrated and state-of-the-art car crash simulation application. By complementing the highly productive 3D PLM Portfolio, this partnership will provide real savings and innovation to our common customers,” says Gérard Lecina, Director CATIA CAE Division.
- design data integration
- Finite Element model quality checking
- de-intersection and de-penetration
- automatic generation of connexions between parts
- Model Manager to quickly assemble the different parts of the model
- definition of additional data necessary to obtain the trimmed model: additional masses, initial velocities, contact interfaces, boundary conditions, dummy model positioning, belt generation, airbag folding, post-processing options.

The tight integration between CATIA V5 and M-Crash will maintain the full associativity between the design and analysis models. It will speed up iterations of improved design solutions through simulations and consequently allow product optimization through automatic updates, and further improve the quality of design while reducing design cycles.
“The tight integration of CATIA V5 Design & Meshing technology combined with Radioss in-depth knowledge of customer processes and industry proven technology in M-Crash CAA V5 based will drastically reduce the cycle time to build a crash model, as well as improving the quality and homogeneity of models and results,” said Francis Arnaudeau, General Manager MECALOG.
