Dassault Systemes Showcases CATIA V5 at Tablet PC Launch

CATIA V5 on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Puts Powerful 3D Design, Data Engineering Tools Within Reach

New York, N.Y., and Paris, France - November 7, 2002 - At the introduction today of Microsoft’s Windows XP Tablet PC Edition in New York, Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) demonstrated the powerful three-dimensional (3D) capabilities of CATIA V5, the world’s leading 3D product development solution, on Microsoft’s new Windows XP operating system. By using Tablet PCs, product designers and engineers can extend the functionality and usage of CATIA V5 far beyond the office.

The seamless integration of CATIA V5’s features with the impressive mobility of the Tablet PC opens the door to a new world of product design and collaboration in which 3D engineering data can easily be shared without physical constraints. Users from product development, manufacturing, sales, and marketing can use Tablet PCs to exchange, manipulate and review 3D product data from virtually any location, including headquarters, the factory floor, a customer’s office, or the assembly line. The ability to sketch, view, and change designs in real time with CATIA and a Tablet PC is now firmly within everyone’s reach.

“The mobility of the Tablet PC, combined with the ease of use and breadth of Dassault Systemes’ 3D PLM offering (CATIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA, and SMARTEAM) is making our strategic vision of The Power of 3D for All, Everywhere, Anytime a reality," said Bruno Latchague, executive vice president of research and development, Dassault Systemes. "Thanks to the power of the V5 architecture and its integration within the Windows XP environment, any actor involved in the product lifecycle can work on a Tablet PC with native 3D product data at any place, at any time."

"Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition allows any V5 user to achieve even better agility and productivity while working with powerful 3D design data," said Sanjay Parthasarathy, vice president Platform Strategy and Partner Group, Microsoft. "We are delighted to have Dassault Systemes as a partner at the launch showcasing how CATIA V5 applications can take advantage of the ultraportable Tablet PC."

“Our partnership with Dassault Systemes aims to deliver technology breakthroughs and foster ongoing innovations that benefit PLM users,” said Ted Clark, vice president New Notebook Markets, HP Personal Systems Group. “The combination of the HP Tablet PC’s mobility and the power of CATIA V5 creates tremendous value for anyone who would like to see 3D product data, regardless of the time or location.”

In future releases, users will be able to take advantage of new CATIA features specifically designed for the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition to enhance collaboration among project teams.
