Dassault Systèmes-Powered SCP.Camera Wins Emerging Technology Designationat SIGGRAPH 2007 Show

3DVIA Virtools Gives Editing Power to 3D Camera That Provides Easy-to-Use Tool for Movie Production Planning

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 6, 2007- Dassault Systèmes (DS) (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced that SCP.Camera, a 3DVIA Virtools-powered system for adding camera motion to 3D virtual environments, has been chosen as an Emerging Technology at the SIGGRAPH 2007 show in San Diego.

SCP.Camera is an “immersive device” developed by researchers at ATI Paris 8 university. It provides a new way to prepare and plan movie production. Users can create camera movements from a virtual environment, visualize them immediately, and edit them with 3DVIA Virtools recording, editing and playback functions. SIGGRAPH Emerging Technologies is a showcase of innovative technologies and applications in fields such as displays, robotics, interaction techniques, computer vision, wearable computing, data and scientific visualization, graphics, collaborative environments, and design.“Virtools real-time platform and its Virtual Reality add-on made it possible to create an original and innovative project. It helped us easily integrate new peripherals of optical tracking and a plug-in with our own technology (SCP Camera device),” said Nicolas Serikoff, SCP Cam project manager. “Thanks to Virtools Scripting Language, we also had the opportunity to optimize and automate our 3D workflow using our digital content creation modeling tool.”

“SCP.Camera bridges the gap between 3D cinema and virtual reality in a never-before- seen manner, going beyond the now traditional motion capture of actors,” said David Nahon, virtual reality manager, 3DVIA Virtools, Dassault Systèmes. “By providing such tools to filmmakers, SCP gives them very intuitive, expressive and natural ways to record camera motion. The simplicity of the shooting and editing experience makes it a perfect illustration of the benefits of 3DVIA Virtools technology when it comes to using 3D as a universal creation and communication language.”

Dassault Systémes and ATI Paris 8 university researchers will demonstrate SCP.Camera at SIGGRAPH in the Emerging Technology Area, booth #0065.
