Dassault Systèmes Establishes Academic Partnership with the University of Tunis

University to advance education and research with latest CATIA and SMARTEAM solutions

Paris, France and Tunis, Tunisia – May 27, 2003 – Dassault Systèmes (Nasdaq: DASTY, Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) today announced the creation of an educational partnership with the University of Tunis. Under the terms of the agreement, Dassault Systèmes will provide the university’s science pole, the Ecole Supérieur des Sciences et Techniques de Tunis (ESSTT) with CATIA® V5 for collaborative product development and SMARTEAM® V5 for collaborative lifecycle management.

The university will use the leading-edge product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions in its teaching, continuing education, technical assistance, and industry collaboration programs. The solutions will give University of Tunis graduates the hands-on engineering skills required by the Tunisian manufacturing sector in fields such as design, production and maintenance management, quality control, and instrumentation and measurement. The ESSTT will also use the solutions to help working technicians keep abreast of new technologies through its continuing education program.

“This partnership will give students at the University of Tunis access to the most sophisticated CAD and PDM technology on the market,” said Francis Bernard, Executive Committee advisor, Dassault Systèmes. “It will also ensure that they work with the same tools used by manufacturers around the world. In the long run, the partnership will benefit Tunisian manufacturers because the ESSTT graduates they hire will possess unmatched product development and lifecycle management skills and knowledge.”

“Education, research, and technology transfer are the key goals of the ESSTT,” said Tourki Zoubeir, associate professor, Ecole Supérieur des Sciences et Techniques de Tunis. “The partnership with Dassault Systèmes will help us achieve those objectives. The addition of CATIA and SMARTEAM to our curriculum, workshops, and research labs will enable our students and researchers to work with the most up-to-date technology in marketplace today and apply that knowledge in Tunisia’s manufacturing sector.”

Dassault Systèmes provides its PLM technology to more than 75,000 students at 1,500 universities around the world through its Educational Program. Helping students bridge the gap between academic instruction and professional life, Dassault Systèmes offers its complete portfolio of products (CATIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA, SMARTEAM, SolidWorks, and SPATIAL) to educational institutions at preferential rates for PLM research and training.
