Dassault Systèmes Confirms Support for Microsoft’s Peak Performance Initiative at the Global Automotive Summit

Dassault Systèmes’ PLM solutions enable automobile manufacturers to cut design cycle time and improve efficiency

Dearborn, MI - April 29, 2005 -- Dassault Systèmes (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSYPA) today announced its support of Microsoft’s Peak Performance Initiative at the 2005 Global Automotive Summit. The Peak Performance Initiative, developed by Microsoft and its industry partners, is designed to help manufacturers accelerate insight and innovation throughout the automotive community.


By deploying Dassault Systèmes’ software in conjunction with the Microsoft platform, the companies are focused on delivering greater customer value through easy-to-use solutions that reduce the time and cost involved in product development. Dassault Systèmes’ V5 PLM solutions - which enable companies to simulate products virtually in 3D from conception to maintenance across the extended enterprise - include CATIA for design, DELMIA for manufacturing process, and ENOVIA and SMARTEAM for resource management.


V5 PLM solutions from Dassault Systèmes have already enabled automotive companies to achieve significant results. DaimlerChrysler AG began using CATIA for its virtual product development in the late 1980s. First implemented in a pilot program on the Mercedes-Benz S Class in the body area, DELMIA improved manufacturing planning time by about 30 percent. In addition, DELMIA also helped DaimlerChrysler out in quality and cost.


With DELMIA, all development activities from process planning up to completion of the car can be validated in a 3D virtual environment. Users virtually define, optimize and simulate manufacturing process and resources as well as visualize workforce operability, enabling the company to dramatically reduce cost and identify and correct errors before physical production begins. As an added benefit, data from the simulations can be reused to author 3D electronic work instructions for the shop floor. Workers learn new tasks faster after seeing them simulated in 3D using DELMIA.


DaimlerChrysler has also reported efficiency and productivity gains for product conceptual design and packaging studies through its engineering initiatives and software technologies using Dassault Systèmes products via its IBM Product Lifecycle Management solutions. Using CATIA V5 DaimlerChrysler’s Technical Computer Center (TCC) has developed knowledge-driven applications for interior, chassis, powertrain and body-in-white domains.
