Dassault Systemes and LightWork Design announce an Original Software Development Partnership Agreement

Suresnes (France), June 6, 2001 – Dassault Systemes (Nasdaq:DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) and UK-based LightWork Design, today announced the signing of an Original Software Development agreement (OSD). Under this agreement, LightWork Design's market leading MachineWorks technology will be embedded into the open Version 5 Architecture, including CATIA, DELMIA and other Dassault Systemes Solutions.
MachineWorks is LightWork Design's highly acclaimed CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) simulation and verification toolkit. Through an unparalleled combination of speed and accuracy it has become the number one toolkit of its kind; Its fast, flexible solid Boolean engines enable the user to emulate even the most complex of CNC operations including multi-axis milling & turning and Wire-EDM. Costly toolpath errors causing such problems as surface gouges and collisions can also be individually identified by the advanced geometrical engines in a virtual machining environment before any real damage can occur.
By integrating MachineWorks technology, Dassault Systemes is building on CATIA’s and DELMIA’s already extensive functionality, actively demonstrating to its customers a commitment to continually add-value to the solution, and more particularly in the Computer Aided Manufacturing and Manufacturing simulation domains. Users will benefit from increased planning capabilities and improved plant efficiency, through such areas as the virtual elimination of costly and sometimes ineffective dry-runs. The end result of which is clear; higher product quality, lower costs and a faster time to market. The MachineWorks technology is now integrated into CATIA Version 5 NC Manufacturing products available on the market.
"Having worked closely with both Dassault Systemes Provence and DELMIA in the past, providing our NC simulation expertise for Dassault products such as the advanced Virtual NC solution, we are delighted to extend our relationship into the CATIA domain." says Dr Gordon Oliver, President and CEO of LightWork Design. "By integrating MachineWorks technology, CATIA users will be able to access the most advanced functionality available."

"LightWork Design has worked with Dassault Systemes for a number of years, adding valuable technology into a variety of projects. By significantly extending the agreement and integrating MachineWorks technology into CATIA we are ensuring that we continue to force the progress in an area we have identified as being critical to the advancement of our customers operation” said Mike Payne, Dassault Systèmes Executive Vice-President of Technology". “We are particularly happy to broaden significantly into CATIA the technology and knowhow developed with DELMIA."
