Dassault Systèmes and Lattice Technology Team Up with Industry to Develop 3D XML for Product Lifecycle Management

Dassault Systèmes to leverage Lattice Technology’s expertise to create a converging open 3D standard based on XML

Tokyo, Japan and Paris, France – July 8, 2004 – Dassault Systèmes (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) and Lattice Technology today announced a strategic, long-term partnership whereby Dassault Systèmes will leverage Lattice Technology’s XVL solutions and expertise to create a universal 3D XML (Extensible Markup Language) open format for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

Under the terms of the agreement, Lattice Technology becomes a CAA V5 SCP Gold (Software Community Program) partner. It will develop and sell a suite of next-generation technical publication applications based upon Dassault Systèmes’ CAA V5 (Component Application Architecture Version 5) enhanced with the new open format.

Using Lattice Technology’s applications, users will be able to generate 3D manuals, parts lists, marketing brochures, assembly instructions, and parts databases. The solutions will provide functions to create 3D interactive Web pages or office documents enabling users to combine 3D data, 2D images, structured data, text and graphics together in a single lightweight document. These applications will work either connected with SMARTEAM or ENOVIA databases or in local mode.

Developed in conjunction with industry, 3D XML for PLM will enable users to create and share live 3D V5 data quickly and easily in a lightweight XML-based format. Lattice Technology’s advanced XVL solutions for compressing highly complex data accurately and Dassault Systèmes’ unique mathematical strengths and extensive suite of collaborative solutions will provide a format for the exchange of live 3D information.

Dassault Systèmes will use the 3D XML format in its entire line of products – CATIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA, SMARTEAM, SolidWorks and Spatial. CAA V5 and SolidWorks software partners will also have the opportunity to leverage this technology breakthrough. Dassault Systèmes will introduce the first release of this collaborative, open 3D standard for PLM to its customers based on Version 5, Release 14 (V5R14) of its PLM solutions with further expansion in subsequent releases of all Dassault Systèmes group products.

“Dassault Systèmes is teaming up with Lattice Technology to create a powerful standard for the exchange of 3D data,” said Yoshikazu Amano, Managing Officer, Toyota Motor Corporation. “We are strong supporter of this V5 evolution because it facilitates collaboration with our suppliers, partners and customers.”

“Lightweight visualization is critical in many PLM activities, and especially in technical publishing processes,” said Hiroshi Toriya, CEO, Lattice Technology. “Our experience in this domain together with Dassault Systèmes breakthrough V5 infrastructure will enable us to deliver the right solution to our customers.”

“Our partnership with Lattice Technology demonstrates our commitment to innovation, teamwork and technology excellence,” said Dominique Florack, executive vice president, Strategy, R&D, Dassault Systèmes. “3D XML for PLM will enable users to rapidly share complex 3D data, creating a global, open, collaborative 3D environment.”
