Dassault Systèmes and Alma Establish CAA V5 Software Partnership

Alma’s nesting and NC programming solutions to enhance Dassault Systèmes’ PLM environment

Paris and Grenoble, France, Oct. 12, 2004 – Dassault Systèmes (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) today announced a strategic partnership with Alma, a leading provider of applications for structural plate nesting and sheet-metal cutting. Alma joins the company’s Software Community Program (SCP) as a Component Application Architecture Version 5 (CAA V5) Software Partner.

Alma will integrate its act/cut Computer Aided Manufacturing solutions for the programming of cutting and punching into CATIA V5. This partnership will launch two products based on the CAA V5 platform: act/cut V5 for Sheet Metal, which will work with the CATIA V5 sheet-metal module and will be equipped with NC cutting machines for any type of cutting technology; and act/cut V5 for Structure, which will be integrated into the Dassault Systèmes V5 Shipbuilding solution for use by shipyards that employ sheet-metal cutting and marking processes.

Both products will import 2D geometrical files designed in CATIA V5 together with different technological features such as marking, folding lines, and bevels. In addition, act/cut V5 for Sheet Metal will enable the user to unfold a 3D part in the CATIA V5 Sheet Metal Design (SM1) environment with a single mouse click and to extract the flattened-part file directly, without any user intervention or file manipulation. CATIA - Sheet Metal Design 1 (SM1) is a solution dedicated to the design of sheet metal parts.

Alma will also integrate act/cut V5 for Structure into the DELMIA DPM for Structure environment, enabling users to directly extract management information relative to the parts to be produced, without the need for processing or intermediate files.

The act/cut V5 for Sheet Metal and act/cut V5 for Structure products will be available at the beginning of 2005. Alma will develop them using the CAA V5 open platform provided by Dassault Systèmes that uses industry-standard tools and methodologies for developing PLM solutions in both C++ and Java. Both products will be directly marketed by Alma and its distribution network

“ALMA’s endorsement of V5 is a new step forward in delivering the best manufacturing portfolio available for all industries,” said Harry Daglas, vice president, research and development, ship and plant solutions, Dassault Systèmes. “In particular, ALMA and Dassault Systèmes are leveraging their respective strengths to grow their leadership in Shipbuilding industry.”

“We are confident that joining the CAA V5 community will enable us to expand our efforts to spread our expertise in sheet metal manufacturing, especially within the shipbuilding industry,” said Jean-Pierre UHRY, president, ALMA. “This partnership will enable the optimization of manufacturing processes of sheet metal parts”.
