3DEXPERIENCE Lab Open Innovation Initiatives Aim to Quickly Deliver Solutions in Fight Against COVID-19

Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE Lab has launched multiple initiatives with startups and makers to quickly answer unmet urgent needs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The initiatives leverage collaborative, collective intelligence on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to rapidly source, qualify, design, engineer and manufacture solutions that can solve issues and benefit local hospitals.  Initiatives include:

Fast-track startup acceleration with data intelligence:  A dedicated 3DEXPERIENCE Lab committee was set up in record time to validate startups worldwide focused on developing COVID-19 solutions for a fast-track acceleration program.  Startups were sourced using data intelligence dashboards on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the lab’s incubator partner network.  They gain access to collaborative engineering applications on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, marketplace services for manufacturing, and mentoring from Dassault Systèmes’ experts and the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab community, to quickly develop their solutions.

Frugal innovation to reduce product complexity and costs: Engineers, designers, manufacturers, scientists, makers and fabbers from the U.S., the U.K., India, France and the Netherlands – and soon other countries – are using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in a collaborative effort to develop solutions that can solve critical issues in today’s unprecedented health crisis such as 3D printing of spare parts or fast design for manufacturing of masks or ventilators for local hospitals.  Design projects are shared as 3D models on the platform, and their engineering is qualified by industry experts, health care professionals and scientists from the medical field.

Open design worldwide: Dassault Systèmes sponsors open challenges worldwide and supports designers and engineers by providing the SOLIDWORKS xDesign online environment to help them rapidly develop solutions. Experts on SIMULIA applications collaborate with scientists to carry out simulations on projects such as ventilators or masks to validate their efficiency. The first open challenges supported include the OpenSourceVentilator and Montreal Code Life Challenges.

Connecting people, projects and production:  The 3DEXPERIENCE platform provides global mapping of hospitals, factories and fab labs to connect people and projects with local production. Access to the 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace enables online production management and collaboration among professional engineers and manufacturers for the rapid production of curated design concepts to support local hospital needs.
