Driving innovation with sustainability in mind, the Swiss EPFL Racing Team leverages the power of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to design the next generation of electric racing cars. Each year, they compete in the prestigious Formula Student competition against top universities from around the world.
What is Formula Student?
Founded forty one years ago by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Formula Student opens the door to engineering students around the world to conceptualize and build an electric race car to compete with other universities in world-wide competitions.
Moreover it gives students the opportunity to prove their technical abilities already acquired in class regarding the design and manufacture of a prototype race car. The performance of the competing vehicles is tested in both Static and Dynamic Events.
Meet the EPFL Racing Team
The Ăcole polytechnique fĂŠdĂŠrale de Lausanne is a public research university located in Lausanne (Switzerland) and is one of the most renowned universities in this field. EPFL Racing Team is taking part in various Formula Student competitions around Europe, in which they compete against other universities since 2017.
Dassault Systèmes is one of their sponsors, supporting this exceptional student team with software solutions such as CATIA and, more recently, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. When our collaboration began in 2021, the team numbered 70; by the 2024 rollout, it has grown to 100 talented engineering and data science students, all working toward a brilliant future. These tools help them design, engineer, and build a highly competitive race car.
Achieving high performance and sustainability
Sponsored by Dassault Systèmes, the EPFL Racing Team uses the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to design and engineer all aspects of its racing cars. Today, itâs also taking advantage of the platform to support its sustainability vision, using the dedicated Sustainable Innovation Intelligence solution to carry out an in-depth lifecycle assessment (LCA) of its competing vehicle.
By integrating LCA data into the 3D vehicle model on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the EPFL Racing Team aims to empower every designer, engineer, logistics expert and business planner to positively influence their organizationâs overall environmental footprint. They can collaborate seamlessly on the platform and see the impact of their decisions in a really visual way.
