California-based Solo Advanced Vehicle Technologies (Solo AVT) is building pioneering long-haul electric trucks designed specifically for autonomous driving. Built by alumni from Waymo, Tesla, and BMW, and backed by experienced technology and mobility investors, Solo AVT seeks to transform the future of freight.
Solo AVT is building its revolutionary truck from scratch and, therefore, needed a powerful platform to support its design and engineering requirements in a fast and scalable way. The platform needed to support concept design, part engineering for items including body panels, structural castings, and routing wire harnesses, as well as simulation and final production.
Solo AVT found that Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE® Cloud platform was one of the only solutions available that could support all its engineering, design, and analysis needs – and all in a singular environment. Apps including Mechanical and Shape Designer and Structural Designer were particularly appealing, as was the platform’s easy-to-navigate user interface and education framework. A key reason for selecting the platform was due to its broad popularity as an industry-standard amongst the engineering workforce that is rapidly joining Solo AVT.
The 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud platform provides startups like Solo AVT with a highly flexible and capable PLM system that can provide stability and scalability as we grow. It’s a one-stop shop, and it gives us everything we need to achieve our mission.
The Solo AVT team was up and running within hours of getting access to the platform. The engineering team started work within the first week of the company’s founding and quickly developed initial designs of the SD1. Another time-saving benefit is the seamless data exchange and collaboration with suppliers. Due to the simplicity of deployment and management of apps on 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud, Solo AVT can easily assign a new license to a user, install and start using the app within 30 minutes. As the company grows, it’s adding additional licenses as required, and is planning to use more advanced roles on the platform such as Structural Analysis Engineer, Electrical 3D System Engineer and Vehicle Packaging Designer.
