Aso Architecture & Design College

To prepare students for the future of industry, Aso Architecture & Design College implemented the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to provide product and learning innovation into the classroom.

Located in the Japanese city of Fukuoka, ASO Architecture & Design College provides specialist training in the fields of architecture and design. The college uses the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, together with a range of applications in analytics and virtual reality, to support the creative talents of its students. It recently formed part of the team that claimed the first and third prizes in Project of the Year, the global student challenge organized by Dassault Systèmes.

ASO College has set up a Learning Lab equipped with 3D printers and virtual reality (VR) headsets for large-scale product design and simulation. The aim is to give students the skills to keep pace with technological change.

ASO COLLEGE’S CHALLENGE

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the restrictions in place made it difficult for students to attend classes on campus. Aso Architecture & Design College therefore made considerable efforts to provide e-learning classes to prevent students from falling behind in their education.

Students use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for a range of purposes: to design the body of a car, for example, or to perform more complex tasks such as inspecting the load of a building. Using the collaborative features of 3DEXPERIENCE, they can also interact with students from similar institutions around the world. They can demonstrate their products and work together on the same project, without losing data.

DASSAULT SYSTEMES’ ANSWER

Professor Takahiro Inayoshi, a product design specialist in the creative design department, with the help of Dassault Systèmes, was able to quickly deploy online CAD courses using the capabilities of the cloud-based CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Professor Inayoshi even gave a talk on the development of the COVID pandemic at the 2020 annual conference of the JSEE (Japanese Society for Engineering Education). He offered useful advice for teachers involved in engineering studies, such as a class preparation using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, teaching methods, and student response to this new methodology.

RESULTS, OBJECTIVES AND VISION FOR THE FUTURE

The courses offered by Aso Architecture & Design College closely reflect graduate employment opportunities. This is a source of great satisfaction to Mr. Aso (Chairman of Aso College group) who believes that the group has a mission to deliver teaching of the highest standard in order to give students the skills necessary to obtain highly qualified jobs.
