Patrick Johnson has been head of Corporate Research & Sciences since 2004 and a member of the Executive Committee since 2023.

His role is to establish the scientific foundations on which Dassault Systèmes builds AI-powered 3D UNIV+RSES that transform Manufacturing Industries, Life Sciences & Healthcare, and Infrastructure & Cities, driving the global shift toward the Generative Economy.

A champion of science as a catalyst for progress, Patrick brings together world-class internal research teams and global scientific networks to deliver breakthrough innovation. His work is driven by the firm conviction that advancing science is the most powerful way to fulfill the company’s purpose - "harmonizing product, nature and life" - and to improve the lives of consumers, patients, and citizens.

Since joining Dassault Systèmes in 1996 as a software engineer, Patrick has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s scientific and technological trajectory, contributing to key innovative products and major patents. After holding various positions in Research & Development, from Product Lifecycle Management infrastructure to virtual product design solutions for the CATIA flagship brand, he was appointed head of the Artificial Intelligence department. There he enabled major breakthroughs, such as AI-driven knowledge-based engineering as well as knowledge capitalization and management for all industries.

In 2004, he was named head of Corporate Research, where he championed a powerful multi-discipline, multi-scale approach for all Dassault Systèmes brands. He has played a key role in expanding the company’s unparalleled scientific breadth — spanning mathematics, data science, biology, medicine, chemistry, material science, physics, geology, systems of systems, and beyond — while enabling integrated scientific platforms. At the same time, he has significantly grown the company’s global innovation ecosystem, fostering the creation of public/private partnerships with leading research institutes and organizations.

He is also one of the driving forces behind Dassault Systèmes’ diversification into the Life Sciences & Healthcare sector, notably through the success of BioIntelligence, the first end-to-end platform for life sciences as well as the expansion of the BIOVIA brand (focused on modeling the biosphere) and the integration of MEDIDATA (for clinical trials).

A graduate of ISAE-SUPAERO (institute of aeronautics and space), Patrick is a member of the French National Academy of Technology as well as of the scientific boards of the Institut national de recherche en sciences et technologies du numérique (French national institute of research in digital science and technology) and other leading institutions.
