T85-2021 Upgrading older versions of BIOVIA Notebook to BIOVIA Notebook 2021 SP1: When the upgrader is run from a machine where Notebook 2021 SP1 application server is installed, sometimes, upgrader may show the wrong version of the Notebook database.

Background

When new Notebook 2020 SP2 and 2021 are installed, wrong database version number was stored in the version table in the database. This issue was resolved by checking the binary version from the database and if it doesn’t match with the old version to upgrade, elnupgrader will override the database version number loaded from the database with the new version number.

If the elnupgrader is run from a machine where the application server is already Notebook 2021 SP1 then the database version is overridden to the latest version, which is incorrect, as the database to be upgraded has a lower database version number.

Workaround

To resolve this issue, it is required to copy the ElnService.dll at C:/Program Files/BIOVIA Notebook Software/ElnService from the old installation and replace it in Notebook 2021 SP1 installation and run the elnupgrader. Once the upgrade is complete, revert the ElnService.dll to the current version.
