Background

Workshare Compare Server is a single server license product that integrates with EDMS (DocCompliance / MyQUMAS). The third party integration facilitates document comparisons between document versions.

The dependency on this third party integration was removed from EDMS in R2021x Refresh1 and was instead replaced by the EDMS Compare Service (DOC-5662). This service provides the same existing functionality as the Workshare integration but also includes some new enhancements such as support for additional document formats. The new EDMS Compare Service introduces the ability to customize how the comparison report is displayed while also overcoming some limitations with tables and extended ascii font in MS Word that some customers have previously reported.

The Workshare Compare Server product will be removed from the EDMS Media set in the R2023x Golden release, as the integration is no longer used by EDMS. There is no further requirement to purchase a WLY license for this product and any existing licenses for Workshare can no longer be renewed. The integration will stop working at the end of November 2022

Solution

BIOVIA Support recommends that any client running versions prior to R2021x Refresh 1 (DocCompliance 4.9 Patch 1) should upgrade to R2021x Refresh 1 or higher.

A PinPoint release that includes this new EDMS Compare Services is available to any client that wishes to retain the compare functionality on versions prior to R2021x Refresh 1 but are not yet in a position to upgrade the entire system.
