Background

An issue has been identified in Pipeline Pilot 2021 wherein "runjob.pl" links that are configured to be run as the anonymous user will return the "400 Bad Request" HTTP status code.

"runjob.pl" links are included in reports whenever:

A component with a "Work Protocol" parameter (e.g. input Form or Submit Button) and the work protocol is configured to "Run as Anonymous User".
An arbitrary reporting component (e.g. Text) has a value specified for the "Links and Actions/Protocol Link" parameter and the protocol link is configured to "Run as Anonymous User".

The issue will arise when a report containing "runjob.pl" links are displayed in a browser for which no existing Pipeline Pilot user has previously logged in. If the issue is encountered, Pipeline Pilot will display a page containing the following text:

Job Failure

Errors

No protocol specified.

Note: Anonymous execution of runjob.pl links generated from Work Protocol or Protocol Link parameters will only work if "Anonymous Access" is set in the Security > Authentication page of the Pipeline Pilot Administration Portal by specifying a username and password adhering to the Authentication Method chosen on the same page.

Solution

This issue has been logged as defect PPC-9934. A fix is being considered for a future release of Pipeline Pilot.
