Release of BIOVIA RTECS 2024.1

Dear BIOVIA Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances (RTECS) Customer,

Thank you for your continued use and support of BIOVIA products. We are pleased to announce that BIOVIA RTECS is now available for download from the Dassault Systèmes Download Platform. Each download requires a separate license.

BIOVIA provides support though the Dassault Systèmes global support site at https://www.3ds.com/support, where you can create and manage your service requests, explore the Knowledge Base and product documentation, join user communities, and access the Dassault Systèmes Download Platform.

RTECS – the world’s premier toxicological database – was built and maintained by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) from 1971 through January 2001. Dassault Systèmes BIOVIA continues the production of the RTECS file using the same data selection criteria and rules established by NIOSH. BIOVIA distributes quarterly updates to licensees of the RTECS database under the terms of the License and Distribution Agreement entered into on October 29, 2001 between MDL (now Dassault Systèmes) and the United States Public Health Service within the Department of Health and Human Services. 

Beginning with the RTECS 2019.1 release, the Excel-compatible file, RTECS_updates.csv, is provided. This file lists the RTECS numbers for which the data of types P, Q, R, S, T, U, and V have either been removed, updated, or added since the previous release. The following columns are found in the RTECS_updates.csv:\

■         RTECS number

■         Record State: “Added” is for a new RTECS number, “Deleted” is for a deleted RTECS number, “Updated” is for an existing RTECS number with any data deleted, updated or added. At the bottom, the Record State column (B) gives totals for the unique RTECS numbers in each category.

■         Data Type (RTECS.pdf has the description, see Table VI and pages referenced therein).

■         Delete Count: the number of data rows deleted for the given RTECS number and Data Type.

■         Update Count: the number of data rows updated for the given RTECS number and Data Type.

■         Add Count: the number of data rows added for the given RTECS number and Data Type.

Totals for Delete Count, Update Count, and Add Count are given at the end of the document.

The database is provided as two delimited ASCII files, and the RTECS User Guide is provided as a PDF file.

Note: If the three-letter combination for the test system for in vitro studies is NOT found in Table VIII of the RTECS User Guide, look for the one in the Test Species list on page 12. Codes for Bacteria, Molds, Yeasts, and Protozoa are listed under Mutation Data (Data Type Q). Test Species codes are included in Table I as well.
