How to Add a printer in CISPro
IMPORTANT! The label printer client must always be run as a computer administrator.
If the printer client is not run as an administrator, you will receive an error when you click Save Settings. The printsetup.config file should never be edited by customers to modify printer information. This file should only be changed by approved BIOVA employees.
1. Open the CISPro Print Client. The Print Client must be connected to the CISPro server so that the status shows "Connection Validated, Communication with Server Started".
2. On the Setup tab, select Use Windows Service to allow CISPro print jobs to continue running after the print client is closed. If not selected, print jobs only run while the CISPro Print Client is open.
3. Click Add Printer.... Printers added here are available in your CISPro application.
4. In the Printer Setup dialog, select the label printer to add by clicking Choose.
5. Provide the printer with a name. Optionally, add a description for the printer.
6. Select Enable Print Jobs for this Printer and click OK to add the printer to the client.
7. When you are finished, click Save Settings.
8. Login to CISPro as a CISPro administrator and from the Select a View menu, click System > Printers.
9. Verify that you see the printer that was just added, displaying the same printer name as was assigned in the print client.

A printer must be deleted from the Label Printer Client and from CISPro Printers. The printer can then be re-added with the new name.
How to Migrate printers in CISPro
If the CISPro Print Client is being moved to a new computer then it is also possible to migrate the associated printers. This task should be done in conjunction with BIOVIA CISPro Support. Please contact BIOVIA Support BIOVIA Support for assistance.
Print Client Maintenance Tasks
Systems which process a lot of labels or which run many printers from a single Print Client may benefit from periodically restarting the Print Client Windows service. This can be set automatically using the following method:
1. Setup the CISPro Windows service to automatically restart periodically (once every 24 hours).
2. In the CISPro root directory (for example c:\cispro) add a new text file called: Restart BIOVIA CISPro Label Printing Server.bat
3. The content of this bat file should be:
NET STOP "CisproLabelPrinter"
timeout /t 10
NET START "CisproLabelPrinter"
4. Confirm that this bat file functions by right clicking and "Run as Administrator"
5. Open Task Scheduler > Create Task and make the following settings:
- General Tab
- Name: BIOVIA CISPro Label Printing Server
- Run whether user is logged on or not: Checked
- Run with highest privileges: Checked
- Triggers Tab > Click New
- Begin the task: On a schedule
- Settings: set a suitable restart time at least once a week.
- Enabled: Checked
- Actions Tab > Click New
- Action: Start a program
- Program/script: <path and name of Restart BIOVIA CISPro Label Printing Server.bat>
- Click OK, enter the administrators password and confirm that the task has been created in the Task Scheduler Library.
- Set the BIOVIA CISPro Label Printing Server service to automatically recover if it fails. Right Click BIOVIA CISPro Label Printing Serve Service in the Windows Services tool and select Properties.
On the Recovery Tab set:
First Failure: Restart the Service
Second Failure: Restart the Service
Third Failure: Take No Action
Reset fail count after: 7 days
Click OK
Best Practice during Server Patching/Reboots/Restarts
Important! This recommendation pertains to Print Clients which are running many printers for medium to large scale deployments. During CISPro server maintenance (when the Print Clients will be unable to access CISPro) it is recommended to first shut down the Print Client tool and service. This can be done using the following method.
1. On the computer running the Print Client, in the Windows services tool right click on BIOVIA CISPro Label Printing Server and stop the service. In Properties, change the startup type from automatic to Disabled, click apply, click OK. Repeat the action on any additional servers where the service is installed and running.
Note! While the BIOVIA CISPro Label Printing Server service is disabled a label print job generated in CISPro will not be received by the print server. The job state will be pending in CISPro until the service is restarted (running again) and the job is sent to the print queue. At this point the job state will be set to closed.
When patching/maintenance activities are complete and CISPro is again available:
2. On the computer running the Print Client, in the Windows services tool, right click on BIOVIA CISPro Label Printing Server. In Properties, change the startup type from Disabled back to automatic, click apply, click OK. Start the service.
3. Check the Print Client setup tab to verify that the Printers listed have new print jobs listed and there are no errors.
