T01-2025 Preventing Workbook Errors after Certificate Renewal

After going through the process to renew a certificate on the Vault Server, users may be unable to login to Workbook and receive the following error: “The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error”

In addition, the ADM-Diagnostic.log on the Vault Server and the Deployment Manager web page will display an error that includes the following: “Could not find a valid certificate”

Description

After going through the process to renew a certificate on the Vault Server, users may be unable to login to Workbook and receive the following error:

“The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error”

In addition, the ADM-Diagnostic.log on the Vault Server and the Deployment Manager web page will display an error that includes the following:

“Could not find a valid certificate”

NOTE: Users may only receive an error after downloading a new package on the Workbook Client machine.

Resolution

The following steps should be taken to prevent errors from occurring.  It is recommended to do this prior to the renewal of certificates when users are not on the system.

  1. Stop the Vault Services and the World Wide Web Publishing Service on the Vault Server.
  2. Back up the web.config file in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\BIOVIA\Vault\DeploymentManager
  3. Add the following line to the web.config file under <appSettings> on the Vault server.

   <add key="FeatureSwitch_DisablePackageSigning" value="true" />

  1. Start the World Wide Web Publishing Service and other Vault Services in the correct order.
  2. From the Start menu, confirm that the BIOVIA -> Deployment Manager web page no longer displays any errors.
  3. Repeat the above steps on additional Vault Servers as needed.

BIOVIA has logged this issue as NBK-35600.  It has been fixed in Workbook 2025.
