3DPLAY App Support
3DPlay is an application of Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform, which allows you to instinctively experiment 3D objects.
You will find below some Frequently Asked Questions about this App.
3DPlay is a part of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and provides the following key capabilities:
- On product data
- Experiment with a product.
- Manipulate a product: drag, rotate, or lift.
- On simulation data
- Check simulation results without opening them in a rich native app.
- Communicate simulation results quickly and easily.
- Demonstrate in an easy and playful way steps that guarantee the validity of the design process.
- Some capabilities on simulation data are available only if the extension is installed.
The targeted audiences of 3DPlay includes DS customers who need to experiment with published 3D data and those who need to access data on the cloud and in mobility.
3DPlay can be opened in a web browser, on a desktop, or on an iPad.
The web app is supported by following browsers: Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
On a desktop, 3DPlay is available with a 3DEXPERIENCE-supported rich client on operating systems Windows 7 64 bit or Windows 8 64bit.
For more details have a look at the Program Directories.
Using an iPad, an iOS level of 6.1 or later is required.
The 3DPlay app is a part of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, so whether On Cloud or On Premise, there is no need for a separate installation.
For an iOS platform, the 3DPlay app can be installed from the Apple/iTunes Store.
3Dplay is not currently available on any other mobile OS.
A simulation can be read in 3DPlay, without any particular license, and allows reviewing results related to this simulation.
However, « Simulation Foundation » option or « 3DPlay Simulation Experience » in-app, on iOS, allows getting an extended experience of the simulation by providing additional content and functionalities.
In R2014x, « 3DPlay Simulation Experience » (SPY) Process was available On Cloud and On Premise. In R2015x, « Simulation Foundation » (SEI) option is replacing it and is available On Cloud and On Premise as well.
It is also available on iOS and can be downloaded directly « in-app » for $9.99.
The 3DPlay app is a part of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, On Cloud and On Premise. It is available with the default Role, Platform Contributor.
For the iOS platform, it can be purchased as per the iOS app policy for $9.99 (US, price depends on the local currency) from the Apple/iTunes Store.
On Cloud, 3DPlay is available on 3DEXPERIENCE R2015x.
On Premise, 3DPlay is available starting with 3DEXPERIENCE R2014, and it can have multiple versions including 3DEXPERIENCE R2014, 3DEXPERIENCE R2014x and 3DEXPERIENCE R2015x.
On iOS, 3DPlay is available and has been updated with 3DEXPERIENCE R2015x (February 21st).
A user can check the version of 3DPlay On Cloud and On Premise from the Help menu in the top bar.
For 3DPlay, on iOS, the app is available in the Apple/iTunes Store. Dassault Systèmes recommends keeping the app updated with the new version when available.
3DPlay can open files with 3DXML (4.3 version minimum), STEP and STEPZ (AP 242 ed1 minimum) formats.
3DPlay does not support animation of simulations included in uploaded 3DXML files. However, if user wishes to animate these simulations, he has to import 3DXML files from 3DEXPERIENCE R2015x rich client.
There is no size limit registered within 3DPlay. The loading capacity only depends on the available memory of the device used. For example, on iOS, every generation of iPad comes with a different capacity. When the memory of the device is too limited to display the content, a dedicated warning will be displayed.
If you get a memory warning message, you first need to manually close all other apps running to free memory, and then try to load the model again in 3DPlay.
If the memory warning still appears, it means that your content is too heavy to be directly played by 3DPlay on the current device.
In such cases, Dassault Systèmes recommends to use the dedicated app “Experience Model Preparation” to prepare and optimize your content for the experience. This app is available with « Visual Experience Designer » Role.
Yes, it is available online on the Dassault Systèmes Support website:
Then under 3D Modeling Apps | 3DPlay.
