    New CATIA User Experience to Boost Productivity

    CATIA R2015x provides a new powerful way to use the CATIA Generative Shape Design application. Thanks to an enhanced intuitive user interface and the new contextual toolbar, you will be more efficient during the design of precise parametric shapes with less interactions. Thanks to the new immersive context toolbar, you can now trigger design commands according to the current selection (context toolbar suggests relevant features, like intersect, split, trim or join …). It is now easy to create geometry with direct manipulations by using the context toolbar in combination with the robot, and retrieve the feature in the specification tree with definition panel.

    Dynamic simulation of Systems with Mechatronic Systems Engineer

    CATIA R2015x delivers a number of enhancements in system engineering, the product development process that integrates cross-discipline modeling, simulation, verification and management. The improved Mechatronics Systems Engineer role allows the use of kinematic mechanisms defined in 3D as inputs to a Modelica systems model in order to simulate and analyze its dynamic behavior in a single integrated environment. A simple example would be to model and analyze the initial acceleration of a mechanism from static in response to a load being applied. In addition, engineers can now more fully model and simulate the physical behavior properties of cross-discipline systems which combines hydraulics, electronics, mechanical and embedded software (e.g. an automotive braking system). 

    Major expansion of CATIA in AEC with 3 New Roles

    R2015x extends the CATIA coverage of the Architecture Engineering & Construction industry. Three new roles were added: Concept Structural Designer, Civil Engineer, and Architectural Detail Designer. Concept Structural Designer allows architects, structural engineers, and consultants to easily create and manage the general arrangement of a building’s structure, including primary beams, secondary beams pattern, and foundation elements. Civil Engineer allow to design, review and collaborate around a civil infrastructure project  - e.g. accounting for typical specificities of such projects such as scale and terrain – with a comprehensive set of apps . It also allows civil engineers to prepare for infrastructure design by creating a realistic 3D model of ground and underground. Architectural Detail Designer delivers a collaborative design environment where architects, planners, consultants and building owners can work together. 

    Visual Experience Designer delivers higher photorealistic image quality and integration with creative artwork

    Visual Experience Designer delivers real-time “live” rendering visualization so that a designer can work directly in a highly realistic visual environment. It makes the rendering and Artwork creation of high quality photorealistic images as easy as using a camera. It provides an integrated and easy to use experience to create and manipulate environments, lighting, apply materials, and visualize your product with realtime or interactive ray-tracing with “global illumination” algorithms for accurate design decision. R2015x extends Visual Experience Designer by introducing the support of Nvidia VCA hardware boosting the interactive rendering experience. R2015x introduce also new capabilities for the Artworks creative workflow by supporting the import of Adobe Illustrator SVG Files and to enable complex mapping of labels & textures on 3D objects. 

    New Composites Braiding Designer role to simulate the Braiding Process

    In CATIA Design/Engineering R2015x, the Composites Braiding Designer role enables the design of composite parts which are manufactured using the braiding process - where a spinning machine deposits and interlaces composite fibers around a mandrel. The role provides an advanced simulation environment which enables designers to predict and visualize fiber paths on complex surfaces, and optimize machine parameters so as to achieve the desired fiber orientation which meets mechanical requirements. The solution automates the generation of an accurate mandrel shape, without physical prototyping, and provides higher quality braided production parts.

    Plastic Mechanical Designer enables the design of complex parts with advanced plastic filling simulation capabilities

    In CATIA Design/Engineering R2015x, the Plastic Mechanical Designer role enables the design of complex parts with advanced plastic filling simulation capabilities. Plastics Simulation Assistant guides the user in easily setting up the simulation with only a few clicks. Characteristics like injection locations and mesh are described effortlessly. Further, a variety of plastic design indicators like sink marks and air traps can be instantly analyzed and the design can be optimized. In terms of manufacturability, this allows users to get their designs right the first time.

    Systems Openness Through FMI Support

    Systems Engineers can benefit from even more openness with the new support for the Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) standard. FMI is an open standard for the exchange of systems models for model sharing and co-simulation. It is now possible to export Modelica systems models from CATIA as Functional Mockup Units (FMU) for validation in another system such as Hardware in the Loop (HIL) or Real Time Analysis (RTA) test environments. Similarly, FMU’s can be imported from other tools to co-simulate these systems components within CATIA.
