V5-xPDM Gateway is a turnkey solution providing customer proven, process-based integration between CATIA V5 and an enterprise PDM system via ENOVIA VPLM. For many customers, managing CATIA data using their existing PDM systems is an ongoing challenge - one that could impede productivity and slow growth. CATIA today provides more than just geometric, analysis and planning information. It also provides rich information on how the various engineering data relate to each other. For instance, when a part's shape is changed, CATIA knows how to recalculate the tool paths and finite element analysis. This concept is known as relational design. If the PDM system doesn't know how or where to leverage this relational information, the knowledge is either lost forever or buried within the files and cannot be used for insights into evolving designs, nor propagation of engineering changes. ENOVIA VPLM solves this problem by providing a collaborative product development environment that can fully leverage CATIA V5 relational design capabilities. However, what if an organization wants to continue using their existing enterprise PDM system? There must be away in which the relational product development environment, which manages critical in-work data, can harmoniously co-exist with the enterprise data management sustem that manages released data. V5-xPDM Gateway is the faster, most effiecient way to integrate the developmental environment of CATIA V5 and ENOVIA VPLM with the enterprise release environment. The first two supported systems are UGS Teamcenter Enterprise and Teamcenter Engineering. The integration is based on a scalable and high-performance, point-to-point architecture that takes into account industry best practices and processes, in addition to providing maturity-based data exchanges. V5H (integrated in CATIA V5) offers functionality for design engineering, drawing generation and manufacturing documentation. Data consistency in the whole design process and synchronization between the 3D model and created documentation is guaranteed. V5H BASE merges geometric information from the CATIA 3D model, electrical information (several interfaces are available) and configuration, and it creates a digital master model. Consistency and rule conformity of data are validated. V5H CONF allows the creation of any customer-specific configuration based on the master model. V5H CONF enables handling of geometric and electrical variants. V5H CALC simulates work planning. The production cost (material + manufacturing time) for each customer configuration can be calculated. V5H CHANGE guarantees complete and reliable change management throughout the product development process. It assures reliability and traceability. A reduction in processing time by up to 80% can be achieved.

Integrating ENOVIA and SAP is not an easy task, in particular if there is data that may be changed on both systems and must be synchronized between them. While The ENOVIA Event Bus, together with the xPDM adapters, provides the technical solution to do this, the different data models and process paradigms present a challenge of their own. Knowledge of both sides of the gap and experience in transforming the data from far over 50 customer projects give T-Systems a unique position to satisfy customer needs. Functions The ENOVIA "Send to xPDM", used either from the VPM product structure or an engineering BOM, sends the data to SAP to create or update the corresponding items. Optionally, it provides an interactive SAP function for the reverse transfer. BOMs are transferred as single- or multi-level, depending on your company’s preferred settings. Event-triggered operation is possible as a project-implemented feature. Characteristics The ENOVIA-side business logic is provided by the ENOVIA components involved and can be customized to the level they allow. The SAP-side business logic is provided by the SAP adapter that is the main component of the integration. It can be customized to a high degree, including scripted attribute mapping. The SAP adapter, core component of the integration, runs as an independent web application. To use the standard functionality, no installation in either ENOVIA or SAP is necessary. All transfers are done via a system of gateways and adapters that provide message and file exchange via web services. Data transfer and synchronization are asynchronous.Note: As of V6R2014, ENOVIA does not offer to transfer change objects (ECR/ECO). This function can be provided on a project basis.
