UPS, FedEx and USPS API Changes

In recent times, more and more developers in the industry have preferred REST APIs since they offer more flexibility and performance. As part of our digital transformation strategy, DELMIAWorks has built modernized REST APIs that will further improve your integration to UPS, FedEx, and USPS shipping capabilities. Along with the new APIs DELMIAWorks will also offer an improved, frictionless API integration experience.
All three carriers listed below have imposed some significant carrier-specific changes.

UPS Changes
What they changed:

  • Beginning in June of 2024, you will no longer be able to transact with UPS APIs using an access key for authentication and are required to update your security model to OAuth 2.0
  • If you are not currently integrated with UPS APIs, or your integration already uses the OAuth security model, the migration portion of this guide does not apply to you.
  • UPS has implemented an OAuth 2.0 security model for all APIs to enhance the overall security for our customers to reduce fraud and provide enhanced API capabilities. As part of the process to keep customers secure, UPS will deprecate the existing Access Key-based authorization for our APIs. Beginning June 5, 2023 UPS will no longer distribute access keys and all API transactions after June 3, 2024, with UPS, will require clients to implement the OAuth security model by sending a bearer token with every API request.
  • In addition to the new authorization method, UPS APIs have changed to fit a true RESTful pattern. This allows both UPS and our clients the flexibility of updating API payloads without the need to maintain strict schema compilation. Going forward, the endpoints supporting Access Key authentication and the older API structure will be deprecated.

What we are doing:

  • DELMIAWorks has started the task to update the current APIs to align with the requirement from UPS.
  • DELMIAWorks will be updated and compliant with the new OAuth 2.0 requirements.
  • DELMIAWorks will be updated and compliant with the new RESTful API requirements.


FedEx Changes
What they changed:

  • FedEx Web Services Tracking, Address Validation, and Validate Postal Codes WSDLS will be retired on May 15, 2024. The SOAP-based FedEx Web Services is in development containment and has been replaced with FedEx RESTful APIs.

What we are doing:

  • DELMIAWorks has started the task to update the current APIs to align with the requirement from FedEx.
  • DELMIAWorks will be updated and compliant with the new OAuth 2.0 requirements.
  • DELMIAWorks will be updated and compliant with the new RESTful API requirements.


USPS (Stamps.com) Changes
What they changed:

  • USPS Ground Advantage is available as the US-GA ServiceType in the SWSIM Staging environment now, and its use will be required by January 1, 2024.  After that date, all API calls for USPS Retail Ground, Parcel Select Ground, and First-Class Package Service ServiceTypes will be declined with an error.

What are we doing:

  • DELMIAWorks has started the task to update the current APIs to align with the requirement from USPS (Stamps.com).
  • DELMIAWorks will be updated and compliant with the new OAuth 2.0 requirements.
  • DELMIAWorks will be updated and compliant with the new RESTful API requirements.
