T74-2017: Chemical Registration: Primary Identification Rule

Chemical Registration

An issue has been identified in Chemical Registration 2017 and 2017 R2 where the product has been upgraded directly or indirectly from Chemical Registration 3.2 (and 3.2 SP1). The issue does not affect newly installed instances of Chemical Registration 2017, 2017 R2, or upgrades where the initial installation was Chemical Registration 4.2 or 2016.
 
Chemical Registration 2017 introduced support for automated identity workflows in addition to interactive identity management. The enhancement incorporated the introduction of primary and non-primary identity rules.

  • If automatic class identity management is active, when a record matches more than one identification rule, the primary rule (the Chemistry Unique Rule in the default system configuration) takes precedence to determine identity.
  • In interactive identity mode (the default configuration), with a primary rule enabled you cannot register a new lot of a concept where the primary identity information (by default, the chemistry) does not match. This is a deviation from the behaviour in Chemical Registration 3.2, where given the appropriate permissions, a user could register a new lot of an existing compound based on a match to any of the identity rules.

 
In systems upgraded to 2017 or 2017 R2 from 3.2 (3.2 SP1), the “Chemistry Unique Rule” is not upgraded, as expected, to act as the primary identity rule for the structure class. This mode of operation remains a valid and supported configuration for an upgraded Chemical Registration system and, as noted above, replicates the behaviour observed in Chemical Registration 3.2.
 
Resolution:
The upgrade issue, reported as defect REG-19555, has been resolved in Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1. BIOVIA recommends upgrading to this service pack release to enable the “Chemistry Unique Rule” to be recognized correctly as a primary identity rule. Customers that do not want the “Chemistry Unique Rule” to be treated as a primary rule after applying the service pack (effectively remaining with a system that behaves identically to Chemical Registration 3.2) should contact BIOVIA Support.
