T73-2017: Chemical Registration: Error Upgrading to Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 from 2017 R2 HF1 or 2017 R2 HF2.

Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 included changes to both the chemreg and registration packages on the Pipeline Pilot server, these contain the components and protocols that drive the Chemical Registration application. It has been found that upgrading from Chemical Registration 2017 R2 HF1 or HF2 to Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1, only upgrades the chemreg package and not the registration package. Upgrades from Chemical Registration 2017 R2 (or earlier versions) are not affected by this upgrade issue.

To check whether an installation of Chemical Registration 2017R2 SP1 has the correct versions of the chemreg and registration packages you should inspect the package numbers in the Pipeline Pilot Administration Portal. Navigate to Reports -> Installed Packages and note the package numbers for the Chemical Registration and Registration packages.

For Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 the package version numbers should be:
Chemical Registration – 17.2.100.1550
Registration – 17.2.0.1683
Version numbers that differ to these indicate that Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 has not installed correctly.

Resolution:
This issue has been logged as a defect, issue number REG-20206.

BIOVIA strongly advises correcting the upgrade error to ensure the correct package versions are used. The issue can be corrected through removal of the Chemical Registration packages and reinstallation of the Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 packages.

To remove the Chemical Registration packages, chemreg and registration, the pkgutil application should be used. Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 should then be reinstalled following the standard procedure.

Note: Only the application packages, chemreg and registration, need to be reinstalled; no changes are required to the Chemical Registration schema or any customizations made to the application.

Pipeline Pilot Windows server:
1. Stop the Pipeline Pilot services.
2. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and change directory to <PPS_install>\bin
3. Execute the following commands:
>pkgutil –u scitegic\chemreg
>pkgutil –u scitegic\registration
4. Delete the chemreg and registration package folders from the file system.
(<PPS_install>\apps\scitegic\chemreg)
(<PPS_install>\apps\scitegic\registration)
5. Run the Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 installation.
- As an administrator run “scitegicsetup.exe” for the Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 installation files.
- Click through the prompts to install Chemical Registration.
6. Start the Pipeline pilot services.

Pipeline Pilot Linux server:
1. Stop the Pipeline Pilot services.
2. Open a shell as the Pipeline Pilot application user and change directory to < PPS_install>/linux_bin
3. Execute the following commands:
#source ppvars.sh
#pkgutil –u scitegic/chemreg
#pkgutil –u scitegic/registration
4. Delete the chemreg and registration package folders from the file system.
(<PPS_install>/apps/scitegic/chemreg)
(<PPS_install>/apps/scitegic/registration)
5. Run the Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 installation.
Open a shell as the Pipeline Pilot application user and change directory to the folder containing the Chemical Registration 2017 R2 SP1 installation files.
Run the installer “sciinstall” and follow the prompts to install Chemical Registration.
6. Start the Pipeline pilot services.

Finally check the package version numbers to ensure the reinstallation has completed successfully.
