T69-2017: Biological Registration: Primary Identification Rule
An issue has been identified in Biological Registration that may potentially affect customers who have upgraded from Biological Registration 3.1 (directly or indirectly) to the 2016, 2017 or 2017 R2 releases of the product (REG-19555). Customers running Biological Registration 2016, 2017, or 2017 R2 installed as new systems are not affected and can safely ignore this communication.
Biological Registration makes use of primary and non-primary rules to establish identity.
- If automatic class identity management is active (the default configuration), when a record matches more than one identification rule, the primary rule for that entity takes precedence and is used to determine identity.
- In interactive identity mode with primary rules enabled you cannot register a new record of a concept where the primary information does not match.
In systems upgraded to 2016, 2017 or 2017 R2 from 3.1, primary rules may not be recognized as primary due to a bug. This can result in registered lots being assigned to the incorrect concept in the uncommon situation where a registration includes conflicting identifying information that would normally trigger the curation workflow for conflict resolution. Resolution:
BIOVIA has written a simple reporting tool available from BIOVIA Support that can be used to determine whether your system is affected by this bug. If your system is affected, it can be resolved by applying a simple fix to update your database configuration. The underlying issue that causes this problem has also been resolved in the 2017 R2 SP1 service pack release for Biological Registration.
